letmein

So as tech stores go down hill there is less places to buy reliable tech

So when is ltt going to start your own line line ltt tested store for all the tech you recommend ?

Horrible idea.

They'd have to warehouse and distribute it, and there's very slim margins in that already.

Luke and Linus actually discussed this in the last WAN Show. They've considered it, but the logistics don't make sense currently. The LTT Store will include some bespoke tech at some point. Linus has already stated that both LTT branded cables and mice are coming. However, they're not likely to just include products from random third parties.

I was gonna say never, but seems like Linus is taking his own words back one-by-one. He has multiple times posted here saying that margins for retail tech are too small for the amounts of products they would be selling.

Also, consider couple things. They are still in Canada, so only Canadians would actually benefit from LMG becoming tech retailer. All other countries would still have to pay for shipping, duties and tax. Plus warranty hassle depending on where you live and whether brands offer international warranty or not (= use local office instead of sending to seller). They would be actual retailer, not just distributer like with VAG. Meaning that any BS about "but MSRP" would be same as with other retailers. They would be in it to make money, not to donate stuff on their own cost.

It'l probably never make any sense.

We'd do boutique system builder before we'd do parts retailer (and that's not happening either).

We're a media company first and foremost.

This is a great take but also, ltt is a media company and sells merchandise on the side.

It would be cool to see like what Linus said, a boutique but I think the custom builds are for content on the 3 channels.

forgive me if i'm wrong.

Also, hi Linus.

go follow @sub68, @King of Memes and @wkdpaul.

I can see that changing in the foreseeable future. Merchandise has gone from 15% of their revenue to 32% - in fact it’s their largest source of revenue - (https://twitter.com/LinusTech/status/1486918784401088515/photo/1

Obviously it’s not as profitable being an extremely high cost outlay, but if they sell say 50000 backpacks (Linus confirmed an order of “tens of thousands”) at $300 each, that’s $15 million revenue off of one product run. Plus add the screwdriver and the rest of the existing lines and intense growth of new products, and it’s easy to see how the business could become majority merchandise.

@LinusTech Noctua fans need to be in the core tech lines. Though I guess they do their own black ones now
