M1 Macbook Air, iCloud and Factory Reset.

Hi guys, I got an M1 Macbook Air on my hand that the owner have problem with the icloud account that it kept saying the Apple ID is not active.

I tried to reset the account or password but it kept showing that the Apple ID is not active.

I also tried to sign out but itasked for password to disable "Find My Mac" and when i key in the password it show "This Apple ID is not active"

Now I want to give it a factory reset but I wonder if after the reset it will lock the Macbook and asked to login with the problematic account to unlock, similar like resetting an iPhone/iPad?

I know that's not the case on older Macbook but i'm not sure about this new one. I don't want to render this new Macbook Air useless by resetting it.

No, Don't reset it. You will get stuck at the Apple ID screen if you do it

The best thing you can do in this case is to take to an apple center and have them remove it, this however may require proof-of-ownership.

If you think I'm wrong, correct me. If I've offended you in some way tell me what it is and how I can correct it. I want to learn, and along the way one can make mistakes; Being wrong helps you learn what's right.

The issue doesn't seem to even be related to the macbook but to that person's iCloud account, so have them solve that. AFAIK Apple will lock accounts for things like unpaid balance / invalid payment info so that might be an issue.

  • 2 weeks later...

Apparently 2 hours call on customer service fixed it, according to the owner.

First she took it to the Apple Center but they told her to go back to the place where she bought it because the shop created the iCloud account for her.
