Don't worry, I fixed the glitch.

 

Turns out it didn't like the Iso to USB program that much, used WinDiskImager and it boots to install fine now.

So it worked and installed, but I'm back to square one on it working. Got an intel nic because when I looked up what nics work well with freenas, all I saw was 'any intel nic' repeated over and over again. But it still won't get an ip address, can't be pinged, and is throwing the same errors as before.

 

repeats 'freenas nptd_initres[2107]: host name not found: X.freebsd.pool.ntp.org' (replace X with numbers 0-2) every few minutes.

So frustrated with myself I can't believe it. Every time I troubleshoot something I always forget to check one small, basic thing and it's a different thing every time.

This time it was an issue with my powerline adaptors. The one near my computer is fine, but the one next to my router is dead and I never noticed because my computer just switched to wifi.

 

So the problem has been found, gonna have to order a new one.

I know, but for god knows what reason, out router is in our kitchen and I have been forbidden to move it, because the last time I did was the exact moment our service provider decided to have an outage in our area and I was blamed for it for messing with the router (realized this was confusing. I was blamed for us having no internet, not the outage). But more than not wanting to annoy my family with this thing being on 24/7 in the kitchen, I just don't trust any of them to be near it and not break it. So it needs to be somewhere away from them i.e. my room or a storage room. Probably going to go in the storage room because it's ice cold in there even in summer.

been browsing craigslist cause i got nothing else to do, and i find a 6 month old gtx 980 for $380, thats quite a good price seeing how its about $100 less then the cheapest 980 which happens to be the same gpu aka the asus strix
