Why is Windows xp not been fully exploited

FCHD

In addition to not being a linux environment, It's the intellectual property of Microsoft, and I doubt they'd want to open source it for community use.

To start with, Windows XP is Windows, not Linux. It's not a Linux distribution at all.

With all the malware for it I'd say Windows XP WAS fully exploited.

thats not as big of an issue as you might think and never really was, it was just the hype of a lack of microsoft specific support that made people think it was inherently insecure

It WAS inherently insecure. Have you ever deployed it in an IT workspace? If you put an unpatched xp system online you will be infected by a worm within seconds.

This is just false. Yes, it's not secure, but saying that an unpatched XP machine will get a worm or something almost immediately is just not true.

I'm beginning to think you people may not even have been alive when XP was around?

Lmao. Yes, I was. Not sure about others here, but I was.

When was the last time Sasser did anything noteworthy? I've used and dealt with plenty of XP systems over the years that haven't been isolated from the internet properly.

I’ve posted to this forum from this machine.

What I stated earlier still stands, it’s hyped fear. Anyone remotely technologically literate can operate an inherently insecure system without getting any malicious software on it.

Oh so now it IS inherently insecure? Please explain to me how exactly you will prevent a network worm like sasser from infecting an unpatched xp system. I'll wait.

By not going anywhere that’s so insecure or generally shady on it’s own that it would have a worm.

Like, you have the option of tons of restaurants but instead you eat a truck stop deli sandwich that’s been sitting a bit too close to a heat lamp for a while now.
You don’t eat that sandwich, that’s how you avoid malicious software. Don’t involve yourself in things that are going to probably give you malicious software.

I used XP daily until about 2016, on XP era hardware, with no firewall or antivirus. I never had issues, I think that’s primarily because I have more than 2 brain cells and wouldn’t click on “download Minecraft free now!!!” banner ads on backwoods porn sites.

Pretty easy, do nothing at all. Sasser worked because back then computers usually had a direct internet connection by having the modem connected straight to the computer.

Nowadays everything is behind a router so there's no way for anything still broadcasting that if any to hit your machine's vulnerable port, unless you do a port forward just fo the lulz of course.

Pretty much every malware that didn't need the user actually installing it is neutered by that. For the rest - well the precautions are the same as for a current system.

I have a feeling that people like you, (and me) are in the minority. I don't run an antivirus 24/7, in fact I don't even have one installed, and I haven't for years, and I haven't had a virus in as long as I can remember. I still scan my files from time to time.

I stick to a good basic firewall (NOT Windows firewall) and choose not to visit sites that are suspicious. I think a little common sense can go a long way in creating a safe and secure Windows environment without having to rely on resource draining apps to do it for you.

Also as per the topic, I do miss Windows XP, and see the value in your question. I'm not a fan of forced updates that fill up GB of space for little to no purpose for most users, most of the time. and MS's added bloat and forced apps and ads and telemetry and diagnostic reporting, forced Defender, etc. etc. etc. I won't use a stock version of modern Windows, for many reasons, but those are just a few of my complaints of Post XP Windows versions.
