Is it bad to be looking at a screen all day?

Trail Mixorz

I realize that I spend around 90% of my day looking at a screen, whether it be my computer monitor, my phone screen, or the cash register screen at work. Could this be a bad thing to do? The only time I'm not looking at a screen is when I'm eating and even then sometimes I'm watching tv.

yes it is, I had a realization like this too. But try to take time away from the computer screen to keep the stress off of your eyes. There are glasses to help with this that have a yellow ish tint on them.

Truthfully, it's not the screen that affects your eyes but rather that you're not experiencing enough happiness.  Your eyes are not exerting much dopamine when staring at a screen therefore they are aging quicker.  This can easily be seolve by doing something that brings happiness, something joyful and your eyes will exert more dopamine therefore age slower.

CRT monitors were the worst thing. I was at work and someone brought theirs in because they thought the monitor was part of the physical monitor, and I tried to use it and my eyes hurt after that.

I can't use those glasses because I wear glasses normally and don't want contacts.

Your eyes don't exert dopamine, your brain does.

Yes and no.

While looking at a screen you're not exercising your eye muscles causing worse vision. And no, because you can just do eye exercises.

No its not... the screen might put strain on your eyes but it wont hurt them in any way what so ever, that is a myth

I personally heard that it makes your eyes get nearvision for a short time.

I did not heard of that it makes it worser

Try using FLux.

At night time, it turns your monitor yellow-ish.

After a while you won't notice it, but to prove it's working at about 11PM turn it off and see how f**ked your eyes get.

Hey.

I don't think it'll hurt your eyes as some people have said in this thread... unless it's my 2009 flat fujitsu TFT TN panel.. seems to tire my eyes out...

Yes, there are many negative affects of starring at a monitor all day.

Though I do have to say, it's nowhere near as bad as it used to be with the old CRTs.

And yes, the gaming/computer glasses (I.E. by Gunnar) can help with such things as eye fatigue, but still not viably enough if you're in front of your screen all day.

Not really I just keep my screen brightness down low, which puts less strain on the eyes meaning I won't need glasses.

if your eyes feel stressed, they are stressed, use your brain change your screen to not stress your eyes by much, staring at books all day / crunching numbers on paper can be a lot worse than the effects of a pc screen by far, especially if you are not reading 24/7 on the monitor. It's all about stress put on your eyes.
