what is the most silent stock switch?

Linears, lubed. The most silent stock switch is any linear containing the word "silent" in it.

 

If you are asking for something silent and smooth, and not just an iPad Keyboard Folio, ask for that.

Most silent is probably chiclet style, membrane keyboards on many laptops.

 

If you are looking for mechanical, silent linears with case/switch modding to muffle them.

• Gazzew Bobagum Switches (3DKeebs, Ringer Keys, Ashkeebs)
• ZealPC Healio Switches (Divinikey, ZealPC)
• ZealPC Sakurio / Rosélio Switches (Divinikey - Sakurio, Divinikey - Roselio, ZealPC)

The above are all linear switches. Silent tactiles do exist, but I'm under the impression the tactile bump creates noise and might not qualify if you're looking for "the most" silent switch.

I know nothing of these ^.  How do they compare with silent reds?

Borrowed my roommate's Leopold FC750R with Cherry MX Silent Reds for a spin.

 

 

• Stem Wobble: Noticeable stem wobble, comparable to Gateron Silent Ink Blacks.
• Housing Wobble: Noticeable housing wobble, less secure / more movement compared to Gateron Silent Ink Blacks.
  • Could benefit from switch films.
• Scratchiness: Scratchiness with each keypress. Not as smooth as stock Gateron Silent Inks, IMO.
  • Could benefit from lubing.
• Spring: Noticeable (and annoying) metallic ping noise from the spring on the upstroke, especially with the spacebar.
  • First time I've experienced this from a switch. None of my other linears or my other switch springs squeak as much as these Cherry MXs.
  • Could benefit from lubing and / or a spring swap
• Other Acoustics: Downstrokes are muted, but not silent. Upstrokes have even less sound dampening.
