Gaming/Office chair for a 13yo?

One of the things my nephew was wanting for Christmas is a "gaming chair". He doesn't game on PC or anything, just on ps and Xbox. My sis, his mom, told me he was wanting something that's on wheels, so I'm guessing just some form of office chair.

 

I don't want to just get him some flimsy cheap ass office chair from like walmart or whatever, but I don't want to spend a ton of cash on one either. I know some can easily get well over $300.

 

My nephew is 13, and is at least 5 feet tall, don't know specifically of hand how tall. He's pretty skinny and thin, so I'd imagine he wells at the most 140. Would prefer a chair with cushion that will support him well enough. I'm around 180 pounds and I've bought chairs in the past that were pricy but ended up having cushions that barely last a month or so, me having to buy my own cushions for them.

User Weight is a big factor with chairs above a certain level.  He’s probably way below it so that won’t matter.  Might even have the opposite problem.  Kids like shiny things with lots of styling and the ergonomics will be messed up anyway. I’d say go cheap and cheerful.  Bright colors and logos over actual ergonomics and long term quality.  Might be an argument for lots of adjustability.  Could be a foot taller in 8months.  13 can be like that for boys.

The only important things to him were the "gaming chair" aesthetic and a pull out foot rest.

two possible issues:  it’s not what he sees, and it’s not how grownup gamers sit.  There are also these back only things designed for consoles for sitting on carpets, but I suspect he wants something to stream at his friends with.  Something they don’t have and can’t get.  A throne others can see.  I suspect comfort is secondary.  A beanbag is actually reasonable.  Molds to fit, adjusts to changing shapes, it makes reasonable sense.  I don’t think that is what he’s going for though.  He wants to look “pro” on video.  Might even add the logos will possibly be more effective if they’re visible in his streaming cam.  Spitting chance he wants to look just like so-and-so on twitch.

Inflatable furniture tends to have long term problems.  Namely holes. Lifespan is often measured in weeks. Not that that is necessarily a problem, but a deflated chair can no longer be sat in.   It’s sort of a half step between beanbag and “gamer chair” I d kind of wonder if it is possible to get a beanbag with logos on it.  Two birds with one stone. Might not do the job though. I don’t know what the kid’s priorities are.

Honestly, get this kid the cheapest, flashiest Costco-special gaming chair you can find.  Durability and longevity are irrelevant.  Might as well get him sold early on the idea that gaming chairs suck.  So get him one so he can discover firsthand, and then be sold on the idea of a quality office chair for comfort.

 

P.S.

Unless of course...the plan is to keep him from spending time on his butt, in which case an uncomfortable gaming chair is just the ticket.

Don’t overpay for one. Gaming chairs are all the same and are all cheap rubbish. An office chair would be a better investment but hey ho
