Looking to buy this server... any advice?

Gjed

Hi to everyone,

I found a listing for this server at 270 euros (388 CAD / 312 US):

HPE proliant dl380 gen9 with 32gb ddr4 RAM, 2 x xeon 2620 v3 6 cores, 2 x platinum PSU 800 W, 8x2.5 hdd bays, no hdd

The guy has two of them, and he would sell both for 250 euros each if together ( 359 CAD / 289 USD).

The servers are in great condition, he bought them used. Previously used in a server rack, he wanted to put up a home server but never got around to do it.

I'll go this afternoon to test them.

Do you guys thinks they are at a good price?

I'm kinda tempted to buy both and flip the second on ebay, what do you think?

marco

PS: which test would you run to test a new server you're looking to buy?

Good price, I'd def get them. Just make sure you have somewhere to put them that won't drive you crazy from the noise. They aren't super loud but well above even a more noisy gaming desktop.

CPUs and ram can easily be upgraded if you want/need.

What is your use case?

Typical tests to ensure they are good:

MemTest86 for the RAM

This: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005567/processors.html

for the Xeons

Not much else to test really.

Fair enough, just remember, it's loud...
