5900x Low core clock on cinebench R23 or games.

pinkua

Hello,

i recently built my computer with 5900x and when i run Cinebench R23 multicore test my all cores gets up to 4.12ghz.

i wonder this is normal ghz since i saw some youtuber with just 240aio gets like 4.24ghz all core even tho he had like 75c temp (mine runs at 71~72)

Also in games i never gets up to 4.9ghz. i saw a lot of youtube videos for benchmarking gets like 4.9 ghz for 1~2 sec on some cores game likes League of legend or Battlefield 5.

for me i get like 4.5ghz on BF5 that is the max core clock i got also i get 4.7 on league of legends.

temps are all normal atround 65~70 in game.

i have 5900x, 3600mhz cl14, 3080ti and MSI b550 unitfy-X with 360mm aio(Lian li galahad 360mm).

i left my PBO on AUTO did not touch anything but fan speed on bios.

i really do not understand how i am getting lower core clock when my temp is lower than some of those benchmark on cinebench R23(i looked for No PBO or no OC 5900x benchmark video, just default setting 5900x test, so im 90% sure its not the bios setting).

did i just get bad luck on my chip? or do you guys think this is normal ghz for 5900x on R23

Or should i get RMA for new one.....

Seems normal for a 5900x. The people getting 4.9-5.0 ghz are using golden chips for the most part. Most clocks will be in the range of 4.4-4.7 as listed on the box. Some are also using 700$ motherboards so that helps too.

Are you on the newest BIOS revision for that motherboard? The motherboard has more to do with frequency nowadays than the actual CPU does, and a BIOS update can give you some performance benefits and higher GHz.

That said, you're within 100-200MHz of advertised, which if it's not the mobo, you lost just the silicon lottery. Plus, if you turn on PBO, those numbers will look a lot better and it shouldn't really matter.

First ty for reply!

Yeah i thought it could be the BIO so i updated to lastest one did not help at all 😞

and yeah im also thinking that i am on the side where i got like shitty luck on my 5900x silicon lottery this time.....

Do you think my Cinebench R23 requency is normal? im getting like 4.125ghz ALL CORE max AND 71c on temp ..

don't need golden chip for 4.9-5.0, the range is all within 100mhz, you do need to turn on pbo for those clocks however, and temps look fine.

ty for advice! i will try turn on the a  PBO and see if i can get over 4.3 on all core on Cinebench R23!

it is just weird since all the test video i saw was on STOCK setting, which is PBO off....

Did you update to the latest BIOS version and install all drivers for your motherboard as well as enable XMP/tune the memory to the advertised settings?

I know before updating the BIOS, I had all sorts of issues with my 5800X, similar to not clocking high enough in most apps.

My 5900X was getting 4.95GHz in games at stock. It wasn't super consistent, but it happened. Then, after using Curve Optimizer, I tend to get 4.9 or 4.95GHz pretty regularly in games that aren't CPU-intensive. I've never used PBO to boost my clockspeed directly - just Curve Optimizer and a couple of experiments with the power limits.

To the OP: what sort of CPU utilization are you getting in these games? If a good number of cores are being used, you won't see the max boost at stock. That's for lightly threaded situations that only use a few cores.

Given that you have a 3080Ti, getting 4.5GHz in BF5 is to be expected. That game is very CPU intensive, and so it will load up many cores, which results in lower boost numbers. If this random YouTube video is accurate, you're looking at 4.6GHz with a 3070, and the 3070 is pegged at 99%. With a more powerful GPU, you'll see even higher CPU utilization, and thus lower clockspeeds.

As for League of Legends, that could actually be the result of the CPU not having enough load to bother boosting to the max. LoL is one of the easiest games to run, and your computer is absolute overkill for that game. Do you experience any stuttering or issues with the framerate in LoL? If not, I wouldn't worry about the clockspeed.

Tysm! That is good to hear that this is normal!!

I got frametime issue/ stuttering every single time with BF2042,played with friend non of my friends got stutter every sec but me .

Also other problem I have is the temperature of my cpu! I get like max71c on league of legend lol with Galahad 360mm and iCUE H150i ELITE CAPELLIX CPU 360mm Cooler with lian li o11 XL  ( i tried both)

Also cinebench r23 multi was max 73:(

thank you so much for helping me even this post was old :)

My 5900X games in the 5GHz+ range. With my 200 buck motherboard she rips. Be sure to read about tuning PPT, TDC, and EDC limits. You will go farther with a custom tune rather than using mobo limits. Curve optimizer is what you really need to play with in conjunction with your manual limits. You should see up to 5150MHz if you are doing it right.

See if you can tame 200, 140, 180 with a -30 all core CO.
