It's been years since I actively modified my UI outside of the occasional font tweak. Stopped somewhere around the win8 era because I got serious into college and decided "getting things done" was more important than tweaking all the knobs. Stability over cool factor made a huge difference, especially when it comes to usability.聽

The oldest active screenshot I have is from the laptop I started college with, a hand-me-down Dell that I ran Debian on:

nov_screen1_dirty.thumb.png.f79b7d600f494ab406252d356fe8a221.png

Later, I picked up another hand-me-down in 2012 that I could do more work on -- it had I think four total gigs of ram.聽

And here's a ca. 2012聽shot showing Rainlendar on a different laptop I had at the time

Nowadays, my customizations are minimal at best. Using Oh My ZSH's nanotech theme on unix boxes and the occasional UI tweak here and there.聽

Customization for me now mostly involves stickers, which are a constant collector item, and things like keyboards. I have something in the ballpark of over 250 stickers -- around 80-100 unique ones if I had to wager -- in the collection of stickers that I apply to things. As for keyboards, here' one half of my daily driver Ergodox:聽

I tend to keep things rather stock, however I do like the aesthetic of a split and rounded taskbar and with no real options for this I ended up just writing RoundedTB to do it for me. Combined with TranslucentTB (which was a huge inspiration for RTB in the first place) I really like the end result. I also ended up making a nicer About dialog as winver is painful to look at.

I just hid all the desktop icons, move the taskbar to the top because I'm used to it and put a anime wallpaper from wallpaper engine

I love all of these. I'll take your whole stock.

If you wrote these do you have a site they're available on?

I rarely have a desktop to look at or need to tweak a ui.聽 I rotate my wallpapers out every once and a while, my work computer usually has a nice verticalmag calendar of the month.

My gaming system I slapped Win10 on and can't even pick a wallpaper, don't care, game is running.聽

I always shut off my monitor to save power.聽

Edit: I totally forgot about my laptop startup sound, it's a jet engine starting but I usually mute it now.聽

I haven't done too much to customize the look, but here's what I've done:

1. Uninstalled Cortana

2. Disabled Edge in the search bar (does nothing when I attempt to search up a word)

3. Set the Magic School Bus theme as my startup sound

4. Disabled a bunch of unnecessary Windows services

Here's my wallpaper (and pinned programs)

Also please clean your desktop, it's melting my brain, thanks!

I had the same thought, this is a pre-teen's desktop with nothing better to do than dump photos on their desktop instead of in folders like adults do

Thanks! It's all open-source on GitHub - TranslucentTB, which has been around for years and is developed by a close friend of mine (who's a lot smarter than I am!!) can be found here. The stuff I make can be found here. I'm just finalising the release that adds the split taskbar and a bunch of other tweaks, hopefully that should be released by the end of the week. The About Windows dialog聽isn't currently on my GitHub profile solely cuz I've not had the time to upload it. There's an old version for Windows 10 there but not the fancy new one.

Also whilst I'm sure plenty of people here have less-than-favourable opinions on it, both RoundedTB and TranslucentTB are available on the Microsoft Store - as much hate as it gets, it means that I don't have to pay for a code-signing certificate or build some kind of auto-update functionality. Microsoft just handle that all for me and I'm very appreciative 馃ズ

Funny that this thread came up, given that i spent last night making changes to my Laptop

Nothing overly special since i like to keep things mostly minimalistic

Changes:

Centered taskbar icons (Taskbar X)

Rainmeter top bar (enigma theme) reminiscent of Linux

DesktopCoral to permanently reserve the top part of the screen so full screen programs don't overlap it (fullscreen videos still work normally)

Hidden desktop icon names and shortcut icons.
