What can cause flickering?

Hello everyone. I'd like to know what can cause screen flickering with G-SYNC or FreeSync "G-Sync Compatible" monitors.

I intend to buy a QHD HDR 144Hz monitor in the future, and I'll be rocking it w/ a GTX 1080, so I wanna be ready for possible problems.
The only game (so far) that I'd like to play with G-SYNC/G-Sync Compatible is CS:GO.


Notes: I will only upgrade my GPU next year, I guess I'll wait for RTX40)

Usually just the brightness setting being too high on cheaper models will cause flickering, but that issue has been resolved for a few years now, I haven't seen a reviewer complain about flicker in a hot minute

GPU: Gigabyte RTX 2080 Super

*bought for $200 CAD off a friend who needed an RTX 3080, price was my reward.

Some monitors use flickering to set their brightness level with lower brightness settings introducing more flickering.

 

Many gaming monitors also have a "black-frame-insertion" feature, which introduces a black frame in between each other frame to reduce how our eyes perceive motion blur.

 

But nowadays the vast majority of monitors are completely flicker-free (excluding when you enable the black-frame-insertion feature). Monitors that flicker out of the box are pretty much reduced to ultra-budget options.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.
