I noticed Linus says "mega transfers per second" now, after saying he wouldn't

I can't remember which wan show it was, but it was maybe a month or two ago, someone called him out for not saying mt/s, and linus responded saying he would be sticking to MHz. He kinda went on a rant about it. Wondering if he has commented on that since then or just trying to hope everyone forgot about the wan show rant. I'm wondering what made him change his mind.

He said it didn't matter. He didn't say he refused to use it.

 

What happened was that in a single video, the text on the screen said "MHz" and Dr. Ian Cutress tweeted it out, saying that it was wrong.
 

Linus went on a rant about why it doesn't matter, because it's standard practice across the whole industry to use MHz in consumer-facing situations.

 

It wasn't like he never used MT/s before, and he never said he wouldn't.

well yea, he never said the words "I won't use MT/s", but saying it doesn't matter heavily implies he isn't going to start using it. Its a change, people usually change for a reason, so i'd assume something must have changed his opinion since I don't think he'd start saying MT/s instead if it didn't matter.

by the way, I don't think Linus writes every video he hosts. he could just have been reading someone else's script

I'm guessing the writers are making sure to use it in the scripts so the prompter show it as that and if you follow the prompter closely you'll avoid your habits and say whats there

Better to move to MT/s as a market than to remain with the MHz since clock cycles could be different between even the same company own line-ups.

Plus technically MHz is correct since "transfers" isn't really a unit, so it's just "mega per second" aka MHz. Including the transfer is probably good for clarity with the DDR and QDR stuff changing the effective value though.

 

I never even noticed. I guess my brain already interprets it all the same.
