CPU with 3MB Cache and higher frequency or 4MB Cache with lower frequency

Hi, I want to upgrade my PC CPU for online school and just light gaming on a low budget. I want to upgrade it from Pentium to Core i3. My motherboard is LGA 1150 socket with H81 Chipset. After I searched the online store I got 2 choices. i3 4170 3.7GHz with 3MB cache and i3 4330 3.5GHz with 4MB Intel® Smart Cache. Should I choose i3 4170 0.2Ghz higher frequency and Integrated Graphics Intel® HD Graphics 4400 or i3 4330 with 1MB larger Cache and Integrated Graphics Intel® HD Graphics 4600? The price of these two CPUs is the same, which is $41.55 (Convert from IDR 600,000 to Dollar)

Sorry, I'm new user in Linus Tech Tips and newbie in PC Components

Can you get other cpus?

HOw about a xeon e3 1220 v3? Should be cheaper, much faster(its a quad core). And works in almost all lga 1150 h81 boards.

Correct me if im wrong but i think the 12x0 cpus dont have igpu, though the 12x5 cpus do have igpu

But then again if the igpu counterpart is 15$ or mlre above the non igpu counterpart then might aswell just find some cheap low end hd 5450 or hd 6350, still dx11 so shouldnt run into any issues with programs

Yup thats right, not igpu on the 1220.

But a e3 1225 v3 isn't much more on ebay, and the igpu on those is much faster than a 5450 or similar so thats what id get if you need a igpu.

CORE Beats Cache

+100Mhz vs +100Mhz independently.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

Yes Xeon is cheaper $2.42 and already quad core. But there is no IGPU and I have to buy separately. Meanwhile, to match the i3 4170 or i3 4330 IGPU I have to spend more budget. And that much budget does not include upgrading 1 piece of RAM from 2 GB to 4 GB (1 other slot already has 4 GB).

Thanks for the answer!

I only have 2 choices for Xeon and i5 because there are no other series in my country's online store. For i5 4690 the price is higher $24.24 (Original price $65.79) and for Xeon E3 1220 V3 it costs $2.42 less (original price $39.13) but no IGPU. My plan is just to upgrade the CPU and RAM with a low budget. For GPU it could be next month or next year. Meanwhile, the CPU that I use is damaged, I'm afraid that next month's exam will suddenly turn off my PC and all answers will be lost.

It only affects performance very little, right?

What do you mean by the cpu is damaged? CPUs don't fail often, and the motherboard or ram is much more likely to be the issue here.

In the past I've tried to delid for experiments and the result failed. The memory controller can only recognize 1 RAM slot. When I plug in 2 ram buzzer it beeps long. Before it was delided there were no problems whatsoever. I'm afraid when I use it my PC suddenly turns off

Id really try to get a e3 1225 v3 on ebay then, Should be in your budget, and much faster than these i3 options.

Yes, it's true but shipping costs from abroad to my country are 30% - 50% of the price of the CPU itself

But even with shipping, those chips are about 30USD here, so they should fit in your budget. Id take anouther look.
