Brand New Dell Optiplex 3080 SFF i3-i3-10100T into gamimg i9 10th gen

Go to solution Solved by mr cheese,

lots of problems here

first off, it's an SFF computer, a.k.a small form factor, so your 1660TI won't fit in the case, you have to keep the side panel off

second, the PSU is going to be very low wattage for efficiency. it most likely wont have the 8 (or 6) pin power cables your 1660ti needs to run

third, SFF means it has a very bad cooler in it. It'll run, but it's going to get very very very hot, and won't boost like you want. You're better with an i7 10700k and even then it's going to struggle a lot.

fouth, that computer doesn't actually support on paper anything more than a 10300. a 10900k won't work anyway.

Hey guys Im new, not that Im new on the world, Im new on the community.

I want to try a proyect, I want to upgrade a Dell Optiplex SFF 3080 i3 into a full gamimg machine with a i9 10th gen, 1660 TI 6GB, 32 RAM 2933, and some m.2.

Do you think is it possible?

I know that some of you may recommend some other "base computer" but I already have one brand new dell optiplex sff 3080 and I want to fully upgrade into the previous requirements.

What do you guys think?

Thank you

What gpu will you use? I don't know of any 1660ti low profile gpus

It won't have the cooling for a i9, so probably need a low power t model, just get a i5 or i7 here.

The psu probably won't be big enough here, and you can't really swap them out.

Id just make a diy pc, or get a laptop if you need smalll.

I don't expect it to work. It needs to be supported by the BIOS and the PSU is probably too low wattage, since Dell makes their own motherboards it's probably not supported.

The 3080 SFF uses a proprietary motherboard, with non-standard power connectors, so you won't be moving it into a standard case with a new PSU. On top of that, the power delivery solution is not even close to adequate for an i9.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

Dell says it only supports up to the i5-10600, so probably not.

Thanks yeah I was trying to search some 1660ti low profile but I think that would be a separete bracket.

As an experiment, do you think it would work with the normal cooler and psu? I mean not with the full performance but that would be a great experiment dont you think.

Thanks for your fast reply

I tried to come up with things you might be able to reuse from the existing prebuilt but the only item I can name are the case fans and storage drives. They are two of the cheapest items in a PC anyway...

CPU: i7-2600K 4751MHz 1.44V (software) --> 1.47V at the back of the socket Motherboard: Asrock Z77 Extreme4 (BCLK: 103.3MHz) CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 RAM: Adata XPG 2x8GB DDR3 (XMP: 2133MHz 10-11-11-30 CR2, custom: 2203MHz 10-11-10-26 CR1 tRFC:230 tREFI:14000) GPU: Asus GTX 1070 Dual (Super Jetstream vbios, +70(2025-2088MHz)/+400(8.8Gbps)) SSD: Samsung 840 Pro 256GB (main boot drive), Transcend SSD370 128GB PSU: Seasonic X-660 80+ Gold Case: Antec P110 Silent, 5 intakes 1 exhaust Monitor: AOC G2460PF 1080p 144Hz (150Hz max w/ DP, 121Hz max w/ HDMI) TN panel Keyboard: Logitech G610 Orion (Cherry MX Blue) with SteelSeries Apex M260 keycaps Mouse: BenQ Zowie FK1

Those 3080 sff units have a 200w psu, thats no where near enough for a 1660ti and a i9. Might be ok with a 1650 and a i3, but thats still way to close for me.

I don't know of any 1660 ti thats low profile for sale. I think a 1650 is the fastest gaming low profile card you can get now.
