No, they shouldn't increase temps at all.

Meaning that my 1080Ti can hit 84c and run as hard as it possibly can and I will love it and appreciate it.

I'm not saying you should run it slower, but if possible to keep it cooler without reducing it's performance then why not ?

You're right, adding more fans is a GREAT idea.  You just overthink things by a factor of 10x.  No, clarifying is not the same thing.

I like to overthink just as you like to burn your GPUs.

 

I bet if we brainstorm we can find the fastest way to cooldown and then overheat a GPU and cause it to shutdown also.

To be fair it's not that i'm not at ease... i know GPUs can withstand 85-90'C without too much issues. I even saw some shutdown at 100'C.

 

I just want to make the GPU live longer if possible. My older GTX 950 lasted 6 years and it's still alive without issues and i can use it for gaming no problems.

 

My main concern with the 1660 SUPER i have is that it's the STRIX model like my older 950 but i guess i'm a bit concerned when comparing they're temps :

 

STRIX GTX 1660 SUPER = 79'C in summer

STRIX GTX 950 = 75'C in summer

 

I guess i was hoping that the 1660 being also the STRIX model (i searched like crazy for this model) it would be just as cool temperature-wise as my older 950.

Newer cards handle heat better, due to improvements in manufacture and design.

 

Don't compare the 950 and 1660 temps like that.

 

Even running 80c+, I seriously doubt heat will shorten the life of these cards.

No idea, I never check.  The philosophy is that if it works, 'llwork.  Meaning these things have so much protection these days, that if it's within parameters it'll run.  If not, it'll throttle to stay in parameters and run.

 

That's why I don't worry about it.  I also have 7 fans in my case to help airflow.

 

I'll check my 1080Ti's temps tomorrow night and post them for comparison.

Sort of.  They could help with the following:

 

1. If my 1080TI runs hot (80c+) then you'll understand that hot isn't bad, as it's run that way for 3+ years, including a year of mining.

2.  If it runs cooler than yours, you may see that you need a better case for air flow, since if an OC'd 1080Ti can run cooler than your setup, your 1660 can use more air, not reduction in performance.

Yes, it has.  it varies depending on game/load. 

 

I cant recall what game it was, I'll try to see how hot I can get it.

2) Metro Exodus - 68'C

 

3) NFS Heat - 79'C again

Some games hit the GPU harder, depends on a lot of factors.  But you're not even breaking 80c, in a non-AC'd home.  It's within spec, and won't shorten the life of the card in any realistically measurable way.

I would.  Primarily you're making sure your card has proper airflow/cooling. You want to take heat as much out of the equation as possible. You want the card running as hard and fast as it can (since that's the performance you paid for), where the only limiter is the GPU abilities itself.

 

Of course you'll have CPU, monitor, and game settings affecting this, but as for the GPU, give it air and let her rip.

It's not outside the realm of possibility.  A good mesh front case with 3 fans intake, 3 exhaust will provide a nice flow of air.  

 

If you want to talk cases, we need to add @TVwazhere and @Fasauceome I think, they have better knowledge on cases than I do.
