Yes it'll work. You'll only get gen 3 speeds which is about 3,500 MB/s reads and writes. If you don't plan on upgrading within a year or 2 I'd go gen 3.

Samsung 980 Pro uses PCIe 4.0 while Asus Z270-P has only PCIe 3.0. Will the ssd be compatable with the motherboard? And if it does, will I get a reduced performance?
