Some kind of instant screen burn in/webpage ghosting.

hello, i weird issue. Acer XB327 MONITOR.

 

I will click a page and it will leave the ghost of the previous page there that seems to fade. Monitor is new. Its exactly like what screen burn would look like but happens in seconds and fades but refreshes the instance and fades.

What refresh rate are you running? Does it happen at lower ones as well?

 

From a bit of googling this seems to be a common issue with Acer's monitors the last year or so, especially on the high refresh rate (like 240 Hz and such) models it seems. If it's really bad I would try to RMA it. If new models keep having it I'd look at another brand/model.

ive capped it at 170 so HDR would work. Thats a good shout ill put it back to 240 standard def and see if that fixes it. I couldn't see that on google mate thanks for pointing it out.

Disable any form of BFI, and/or change the PWM backlight frequency if possible.

It could be the result of LCD flicker frequency and unbalanced voltage inversion causing static buildup within the pixels. Its a documented issue that pops up now and then within some models of monitor. There are work arounds, like software BFI, if the display itself cant adjust frequencies itself.

 

However, if the your sure no BFI is in use, and have tried changing backlight PWM frequencies and refresh frequencies, and it still happens with static images, its possible you have a buggy firmware where the algorithm for voltage inversion is not working correctly. In which case ull have to RMA it.

it seem to be gone now after putting the monitor in user mode and no HDR400. HDR400 is more of a box tick in specs at this stage lol. 

 

The question i have for you as you're clearly in the know is does it make sense that the issue would still be there after a restart and unplugging the power supply? Well weird.

Yes.

If it is what i suggested, then whats happening is each individual pixel affected is building up static electricity (this isnt damaging) making it hold a certain amount of charge, thus holding a color, thus resulting in image retention. To get rid of this buildup u just need to display random content that is not flickering at the frequency causing the build up in the 1st place.

ofc this requirs you disable whats causing this issue, like BFI, or a specifc backlight PWM frequency setting. Its possible the HDR400 setting is cranking up the backlight (to get brighter) affecting the PWM frequency, which is then causing this issue.

 

Ofc its also possible this is just defective unit with bad firmware.

just want to mention that it only seems to happen with YouTube, any idea why on earth that would be?

If its happening on static images which have no type of flicker being induced, by the source or by the display, then its possible its a bug in the firmware.
