Did you actually go to Dell for support, or did you go to one of the many scam websites set up to look like Dell support that scam people? There's a lot of websites that imitate Dell/HP/Acer/etc pretending to be support for the company but they're really just scam websites.

If the device is still covered by warranty they should repair or replace it for free. How long is the warranty period and how long ago did you buy it?

What's the nature of the screen issue? Was it always like that or did it only happen recently?

This.  Sounds like you went to a 3rd party repair site, not Dell's actual website.  Did you call Dell or just do a screen chat box thing?

Gotta use a little critical thinking here.  Obviously it's not Dell asking for $3100.

Hey man, you're right. I was too quick there. I just hear and read so much bad stuff about Dell, so I guess I just wrote that without really thinking. But you're right. 3100USD is absurd for a motherboard. Obviously Dell wouldn't ask for that.

Honestly, thank you

Funny how they tryhard to sell warranty and financing, but completely fail with every instance of support i've seen from them.

Dell is probably the first company that i will completely blacklist. There are no words that describe how scummy their business practices are. It's a real shame, as their engineers (specifically for monitors) actually manage to release very good products.

Compared to Dell even Apple looks like a "pro-consumer organization".

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

If I remember correctly from my dealings with Dell your service tag is unique to you, so you can't just search for that. If they sent you the wrong one that is a first sign to start paying a bit of attention. Some big red flags in this email to me:

  1. They say "underscore in the email, not a dot" yet you clearly see the recipient has a dot.
  2. Email hyperlink is messed up.
  3. All the colours an weird mixed formatting. I could understand one maybe two simple colours, but you have red, pink, blue, purple, bold, not bold, inconsistent font size. I personally would not think of Dell sending such a weird email.
  4. They only accept cash or ATM transfer. What kind of company, especially Dell, would want cash or a direct transfer?
  5. "Parts will be shipped to you first" does not sound like Dell to me either, but may be different over there. Either you send your device in, or they determine what they think needs fixing and send an on-site engineer who brings the required parts.
  6. "Dear customer" maybe not a red flag, but most Dell Support communication addressed me by name and not as "customer"

I don't know how common this type of email formatting or payment is in your region, but honestly this screams scam to me and I would personally not trust this to be actually from Dell. I would go to the official website and use the contact information there, or hit them up on social media to confirm it's really them. Only once you have verified it's really them I would proceed if you'd be willing to pay this much money.
