Request: Would Anyone Be Willing To Resize A Few Images For Me?

Kjennings92

Well, I'm not sure how many of you actually saw my post in the Software section yesterday, but in case you didn't, I was asking around if an image of 1 aspect ratio can be resized to a totally different aspect ratio. (In a nutshell, that was the main goal of that post.) Obviously, I'm quite inexperienced & don't really have a clue what I'm doing or supposed to do when it comes to stuff like this. I would normally do something like this if I wasn't so inexperienced, but I feel like this sort of job is best left up to the pros & experts out there. Besides, even newbies like me can make mistakes despite thinking we've learned enough & have all the know-how. Hope you all understand why I'm a bit more comfortable having someone more experienced do it for me.

With that being said, I'd like to ask if any experienced editors out there would be willing to resize a few images for me that I'll be using in a project I'm currently working on? For anyone that wants to know, the images I have in mind are a little bit taller than they are wide & I want them to be resized to 1920x1080 while not having any details WHATSOEVER cropped out as well as NO stretching! Also, I don't want any background colors or transparency applied to the resized images as well. The links to both images will be provided below.

If any of you happen to have any questions you might wish to ask or need more details,  go ahead & ask. I'll be sure to reply back & fill you in! Or you can also reach me on Discord. Username is Jennings92 #8495. Hoping to hear back from anyone who wishes to help! Thanks in advance! 🙂

Am I really understanding you correctly, you want those pictures stretched to a 16:9 ratio at 1920x1080 resolution? Like this?pic1.thumb.jpg.bf814b7516e1a02b350e8e28c84967bd.jpg

In a nutshell, yes, that's basically the result I'm after. Also forgot to mention in the post that I don't want the images to be "stretched". I will edit the post just in case anyone else replies.

Wait, what is it now? You said you want no details cropped out and you didn't want any empty space around the picture, neither transparent or any other color? What kind of 4-dimensional transformation are you after? Or do you just want the picture centered on an otherwise black background?

Pretty sure I didn't say anything about "empty space" around the picture(s). (Correct me if I'm wrong.) As for the rest of what you replied, it's accurate. Just want them centered & resized, but not sure if this is actually labeled as a "4-dimensional transformation". If this gives you any idea or helps out, I just no background stuff on/in the images. Like if you were searching Deviantart for some artpieces for example. 🙂

The only way to "resize" these images to 1920x1080 without cropping or stretching is to just put them in the middle of a 1920x1080 canvas with (presumably) some solid color surrounding them filling up all the empty space.

I don't know how you imagine what you want is possible short of someone redrawing the original artwork with a completely different layout and composition. You are on some kind of CSI "enhance" silliness here.

It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.

So basically, you mean via a border method if understand correctly? 🤔 Also, I didn't ask anyone to judge; I'm just VERY inexperienced when it comes to this sort of thing hence why I'm doing some extra asking around & all. Try to understand.

I created a 1920x1080 pixel empty canvas in Photoshop, made the background black, pasted the images into the canvas and sized them up so they fit the height of the image vertically.

Oh don't worry, we were already judging you from the start for being a Sonic fan. 😉

What Avacado Diaboli posted above is the best that can be done.

If that isn't what you want, it reads very much like you think resizing an image can add information to it that wasn't there in the first place, which common sense, regardless of level of experience, should tell you is impossible.

Think of a painting on a canvas. It is two feet high and one foot wide in a portrait orientation. Now let's say you want it to be two feet wide. You could try to stretch the canvas so it's two feet in width but obviously that would distort the image. You could make a digital copy of the painting and blow it up so it's two feet wide but it would then be four feet high with the same aspect ratio, and also probably look blurry. The only way to make 2x2" painting is to have the artist make a new painting where there's additional content on either side of the original image to make a two foot wide painting. A digital image (jpg, png, whatever) is no different.

You are basically telling us to adapt a vertical image to a horizontal image without losing any detail and at the same time fit to size and with no strecting? This is impossible.

No, the aspect ratio of the two images as pasted into the Photoshop file is identical to the way they originally were, they're just centered on a black background and resized to fit the output image.

I totally see now what you guys are saying. Man, I thought I was simply trying to explore other options, but instead I acted like a total dummy. 🤣 🤦‍♂️ Welp, I guess my best option is to just do some additional looking around online for images that are in the resolution I'm after. Sorry if I wasted any of your time. 😕

I know it sucks sometimes when the images you like aren't the proportions you want. I've stumbled upon many wallpapers that I love but won't fit properly on my ultrawide monitor because wrong aspect ratio etc.

Also I made an experiment with 3D and warping, you will still lose a portion of the image regardless.

Perfectly relateable & nice to see that SOMEONE here understands.

Well, if any of you happen to know of any other great sites where I can accurately find some great fanart, PLEASE guys, do let me know! 👍 The resources I have used so far are: Bing, Google, Yandex, Deviantart, ArtStation, Twitter/Instagram (When I am able to find some great fanart there, that is.) But if any of you have any other suggestions or recommendations, on this, I'm all ears! 🙂

To be fair, you did a pretty poor job at explaining what you wanted. You framed the request around changing the aspect ratio of an image, when what you really want is to just see more of what the image itself depicts on the horizontal axis. And short of someone drawing that for you, you can't magic that into existence with Photoshop or GIMP.

Have you tried using the resolution as a search term? Try googling "Sonic fanart 1920x1080" or "Sonic fanart desktop wallpaper". Both should give you plenty of results that have the correct aspect ratio.
