fractal r6 radiator compatability

hi i have a fractal r6 case with a 5800x in it and my fractal s36 just isnt cooling enough anymore so im looking into the arctic freezer 420mm aio

it does say in the manual that you can fit a 420mm rad in the top with the open layout but my problem is i have alot of hard drives so im using the standard layout

is anyone using the fractal r6 with a 420mm rad in the top and standard layout if so how did you make it fit?

I have the R6 with a 360mm AIO on top cooling a 5.1GHz 9900K, and my temps are low to mid 60's under load.

The s36 is a good AIO as well, I can't see it having an issue with a 5800x when properly installed.

What case fans do you have?  I run 2x140mm in front, 1x 140mm on bottom for intake with the AIO and another 120mm exhaust in back.

I think you may need a bit more air flow vs a new AIO.

i ahve 3x noctua a12x25 fans on it and its mounted in the front

the front is almost filled with drives though and im running 5Ghz on all cores on the 5800x

Your drives are hurting air flow.  Still don't think that 420 will perform better than the 360. and looking at my case... I don't think you can fit a 420 with drives, regardless of what you do.

Can you put 3 more fans on your 360 to make it push pull? That might help you. I have the R6 as well and I dont think you are fitting a 420 with standard config

Also did you try removing the solid metal panel from the top and just leave the filter on, if you do that and put a couple fans up there that will help with your airflow/cooling as well

i cant go pusdh pull without removing the front filter and have to leave the door open

and i actually reinstalled the top panel because of noise

Ok ya so you are kinda inbetween a rock and a hard place, you are gonna have to give up something. Either you need to put up with elevated noise or elevated temps. You arent gonna achieve both without a major overhaul of some kind. Like if you did a custom loop with a 360 up front and a 280 up top then you might be able to lower the fan speeds enough to get the noise down to an acceptable level and still get the clock speeds you want, but 5.0 on a 5800 all core is just gonna produce heat, no way around that and just switching to a 420 isnt gonna solve your problem

I had to as well, but for not only your issues.  I just didn't like having Plex access be determined by if Ark was going to crash or drivers were updating and rebooting, etc.

Yeah the R6 i a great case and can handle all that without issue but sometimes separates are just more convenient.
