To the guys that found reasonable prices for cards like 980ti, 1060’s, 1070ti, and 1080…how?

grbowling

EBay and Facebook are pretty much lost causes for me. I don’t really have that much money to spend on a GPU but I want to be able to play games at a reasonable frame rate compared to my 1050ti. I’ve had no luck for the past couple of months with good deals on cards. Do you guys have any tips on how maybe you found a card for a good price because im having no luck. Im dying to play games like Tarkov, Warzone, and Battlefield 2042 (in the future).

IF you have a GTX 1050 Ti right now, I'd suggest you not consider the GTX 1060 as, while it's an improvement over your present card, it's doesn't represent a big jump for the games you're looking at. Go for a GTX 1070 or higher. Also, I've noticed that you've listed only nVidia cards, have you considered AMD alternatives at all?

For AMD, consider an RX 580 or 5600XT...

...Otherwise yeah, save your pennies because the only way to get GPU's anymore are from scalpers. You can also try AMD.com drops, as they're the only way to get any of the new cards at MSRP.

I guess I haven’t really considered AMD cards. I’m definitely not opposed to them whatsoever though.

Where I’m from people rarely post PC parts. I’d be nervous getting something shipped over meeting in person.

AMD cards are pretty far de-valued in comparison, with the exception of the RX580/570 8GB in particular (it mines ethereum whereas its 4GB sibling cannot) and that would provide you with a pretty decent step-up. Here's what you'd want to look for:

  • Vega 56
  • RX 570 4GB
  • RX 580 4GB
  • 5500XT
  • 5600XT
  • R9 290X
  • R9 390X

With the exception of the 5600XT and the Vega 56, performance is pretty much the same between all these give or take a few FPS, but still a substantial jump over a 1050ti. Good luck finding a 5600XT though as those are in hot supply with how good they are, and the Vega 56 as well seeing as literally like, nobody owns them.

Due to that alone I'm predicting it's going to be quite hard for you to find any card from AMD but it's worth a shot. The R9 2/390X is, well, a space-heater, but don't let its age fool you. If you can snag one, do it.

My profile picure is real. That's what I look like in real life. I'm actually a blue and white African Wild Dog.

Sounds like where I'm from, I went to the seller of a Leadtek GTX 1080 three years back to get that card, which was in an aprtment he'd rented to run his mining rigs (he'd decided to quit). I should have gone for a GTX 1080 Ti (he had a bunch of those too) but c'est la vie, right? Anyway, pretty happy with the GTX 1080 which is in my HTPC.

Do you have a local tech forum? If so, there may be a 'Garage' section where some are selling their used hardware. I'd found the GTX 1080 in a local forum 'Garage' section, but now, the cards and prices being asked for RTX 3060/3080/6900 XT/3080 Ti/etc have left me slack jawed.😵

The only place I'd buy a GPU from overseas are from BB/Amazon/Canada Computers/newegg and such. I have a VEGA 64 Red Devil in my 2nd rig, the original card died within a month or two after I'd gotten it, had it shipped to TUL Corp in California, they replaced it but it had to be shipped to within N. America for free shipping. I was fortunate as my niece lives in Canada, so I had it shipped to her. I was due to visit her a couple of months after she had gotten the card so it worked out nicely. The card is doing a bang up job in my 2nd rig right now.

BTW, you can also consider the GTX 1660 Super as it does have a nice bump in performance over the GTX 1050 Ti as well. It can be frustrating trying to get a good or decent performance card for a reasonable price these days, and I do wish you all the best.

Literally just luck for good prices. That or getting scammed.

Honestly best you can do is wait. Also you can play all the games you mentioned here but at low settings and at worst a 3d render res drop or resolution drop.

I've heard of some who have gotten their RTX 3000 cards after joining the queue at eVGA site, of course, it'd take months but I understand that many have lucked out with eVGA. Whatever the case, don't preorder any MSI cards, I've heard of many who'd joined the preorder on one online seller site since the launch, or just after launch, of the RTX 3080.

They were informed, after many months of counting the day till they get their preorder fulfilled, the model of RTX 3080 they'd preordered was EOL, they had to top up more cash for a newer card (a fair bit more cash IIRC), or simply get a refund. This was after many months of patiently waiting mind you.

Edit - The RX 5600 XT 6GB can be considered as well, it trades wins (I believe it wins mostly) against the GTX 1070, and is generally about 50% faster than the GTX 1060 6GB, which makes it a very good upgrade from the RTX 1050 Ti. Reason why AMD cards like the RX 5600 XT should be considered is used AMD cards command a lower price compared to their nVidia counterparts. Besides, the RX 5600 XT is newer than the GTX 1070 can can reap the benefits of FidelityFX Super Resolution for games that support this feature.
