Windows 8.1 update for making it more mice and keybourd friendly

Sharif
Go to solution Solved by GoodBytes,

Microsoft showed at their BUILD event, the new start menu on Windows 8.1 Update 1 for those who have trouble with the Start Screen, running with desktop and mouse.

Also, universal ModernUI apps (Modern UI apps that can run on anything) can run in windowed mode on the desktop.

Update 1:

So just an update, the Start Menu and metro app in Windows will be a future update, and not part of Update 1 coming up next week

As there was no real demo of it at the BUILD event, it looks like it's still in the works.

Update 2

Microsoft PR releases a screen shot of the new Start Menu, and windowed mode Windows 8 Apps:

Notice how the Start Menu is less wide as the article picture. This indicates that it will scale width wise as you add more Windows 8 Apps tiles.

Well, better late than never.

Been saying it since the Windows 8 beta/preview - they should have had the option for both Metro and Start Menu.

My understanding watching the BUILD even is Windows 8.1 Update 1

They probably won't include it and say "it's not ready yet" or "we're still testing it" or some other BS only to make people buy Win9

Find it ridiculous yet impressive how Microsoft learns on their own faults and gets back to the roots. Basically they had put a out an OS with those drastic changes a then they started listening to their users for what they actually want.

To be honest, I think Window-mode Metro apps is the main highlight. Sure, it's still a Metro app, but at least it gives the illusion of a desktop App. Previously, launching Metro apps from the desktop forced the full-screen Metro interface (as of Windows 8 anyway).

I might actually be willing to not 100% completely hate Windows 8 now.. but, have they removed the whole-appscreen competely(moved it to the start menu instead)?

it's still a cludgy implementation. Much better than before but it still feels out of place.

This is good though it's too late for Windows 8, this makes me look forward to Windows 9

I think windows 8 was a bit infront of its time, it didnt fit with todays input devices, it only really worked with touch. Pluss someone has to be the first to make drastic changes, before it catches on.

I have classic start since the first day I had Windows 8 but seriously, I have used it only a couple times. I find myself using the modernUI all the time and when I'm looking for a file I use the file explorer. Windows 8 ain't that bad.
