Is this worth the trade?

StutterAndLag

Hey everyone. Do you think this is a fair trade? And would I see any big differences between these two cards?

I have a asus rog strip gtx 1080ti oc and he has a Msi gaming x trio rtx 3070.
he wants to do trade with $900 on my end. Is the upgrade worth it?
Thanks!

1080ti + $900 for a 3070?

sounds horrible to me, unless if you have a specific need for a 3070

1080ti ~= 2080, which is slightly inferior to a 3070, maybe 15%?

$900 for 15% gain for games? not in my book

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

I have 32gb ram g.skill rgb, Ryzen 7 1700x, would either upgrade of those see a big increase? I play arma 3 and only average 40-60 FPS on high settings.

Agreed, however a 1080 ti isnt strictly "equal" to a 2080 or a worse 3070 because of RTX, DLSS, and more new features. However, its still a bad trade.

Spend those 900 dollars on a cpu and motherboard upgrade like a 5800x and Rog Strix b550f

Big nerd.

not too familiar with those games, so i cant tell if it's cpu limited

but i wouldnt pay $900 + a 1080ti for a 3070, but if you think it's worth it then go for it

No, it's not a fair trade. The 3070 is only priced at $500 and while faster than the 1080ti it's not all that much faster.

You have a good graphics card now. Hold on to it until you can get an upgrade at a reasonable price.

Looking at comparison videos of the latest AAA titles, it seems the 3070 has a 20-40% advantage over the 1080 ti, depending on the game.

I wouldn't do the trade myself. $900 is asking a little too much.

Would I have to upgrade my motherboard? And what change would I see if I did? I never understood what they do other then hold everything lol.

What about cpu? Do you think a new cpu would be a good upgrade: or 64gb ram? And if you know, is it better to have two slots of 32gb or 4 of 16gb?

64 gb of ram is pointless

A new cpu would be a much better allocation of those 900 dollars

depends on what's limiting you, if it's CPU then go for it

if it's something else, upgrading your CPU wouldnt change anything

32gb is more than enough for many people

some would argue 16gb but i lean on 32gb today

2x16gb, frequency depends on what cpu you have/are going to get

That 1700x is definitely holding you back.

I would be looking for a cpu upgrade and just keep the video card, as now isn't a good time to be hunting a new video card down.

Yeah I'd bet you're already bottlenecked with that CPU and a 1080ti.

If I were you, I would consider packaging the X370 board with the 1700x cpu, sell them as a combo.

Then get yourself a B550 board with a 5600x, as that should give you nice game performance. If you need more multithreading performance as well, swap the 5600x for a 5900x.

This guy is scum, do not deal with him.

Your system is still kinda high end, maybe just a cpu upgrade is better for now, like what others are saying, but I don't know if you will notice any improvement in games, because it depends on the game.

Do you think I’d notice a massive difference with the 5900x? And how much should I. Sell both of them for?

The 5900x would give you a boost over the 5600x in games at 1080p.

Tough to say how much as it depends on the game. Perhaps 10-15%.

I would only consider the 5900x if you need it for multithreaded/multicore tasks as it has twice the amount of cores/threads.

If you're only going to be gaming, than the 5600x is a great choice.

Would I be able to use the 5600x without a motherboard upgrade, or would I have to upgrade it to see any difference? And what exactly is multicore tasks? The main thing I do is browser and gaming and thats about it.

That is crazy! Just wait for the market to calm down a little.

Stick with the 1080ti for a little you got this 🙂

No, you will need to upgrade the board.

Which one of these two should I go for the motherboard? I was thinking razor since its a bit cheaper and rgb looks good as well lol. Or is there any other motherboards I should be looking at?
