PSU died in quarantine. Toughpower GF1 850 vs. Corsair RM850x? Which one?

Lorthium

Hi,

My PSU died at the worst possible time (I'm in self-isolation for two weeks).

There are two PSUs at a Best Buy near my location that are in stock (and a friend will pick up one for me):

Thermaltake Toughpower GF1 850 - Model PS-TPD-0850FNFAGU

Corsair RM850x - Model CP-9020180-NA

My primary question is which one is better?

I have read reviews and read ratings and I cannot determine which one is better.

The price difference for me is $20 between these two PSUs (i.e. Corsair is slightly less expensive.

Also, I am having difficulty reading the PSU Tier List 4.0 rev. 14.7 on the forum.

Are both considered Tier A?

The tier list mentions the following in Tier A:

Thermaltake | Toughpower GF1 (ARGB) / PF1 (ARGB) / iRGB Plus (Gold/Platinum/Titanium)

Corsair | AX Gold / Platinum / Titanium - RMx 2015 (White) / 2018 (White) - RM Gray

The GF1 I am considering is not ARGB.

The Corsair I am considering is RMx, but it is gray in colour.

I have no interest in considering other PSUs at this time since I plan on doing a new build later when the marketplace is normal and I am really only interested in the two PSUs above so I can resume gaming ASAP.

Take care.

I have the RMx850 in my build right now. I have no complaints with it whatsoever. Unless there's something special with the Thermaltake PSU, I don't see a particular reason to not go for the cheaper one.

Best of luck with the rest of your self-isolation. Hopefully the PSU ships before too much of it has gone by.

It's entirely possible that I misinterpreted/misread your topic and/or question. This happens more often than I care to admit. Apologies in advance.

The one that I am considering has no RGB, but I appreciate the sarcasm.  I have nothing against RGB, but my eyes are always on the screen 😀

Funny, but OP did specify he's not after the ARGB version.
