hi, i’ve been told to get the samsung evo 970 + but it seems like too much money. I want at least 1tb nvme, abs i do solid works and play triple AAA title video games and watch movies and stuff, i edit casually and stream casually. any recommendations for something not too expensive with good space and longevity? if i have to get the 970 i will i just wanna see some options, going cheaper will cost me a couple of seconds right?

a couple of seconds.. big deal.. the only reason to get the samsung drives is the (usually) higher warranty/support. other than that, not that much difference compared to *some* of the cheaper ones.

I would suggest some of the intel drives or the saberent drives. those are still really good quality while being much cheaper than samsung and still performing very similar.

You should have a look at this thread, basically anything Tier C (NVMe) or higher is what you're looking for:

SSD TIER LIST - Storage Devices - Linus Tech Tips

Realistically you will not notice a difference in real world useage between any of these and the 970 Evo. The main difference really comes down to the price. Most of the Tier C drives are TLC NAND with some sort of a DRAM cache. If it's your OS drive i'd stay away from QLC drives like the Intel 660p or Sabrent Rocket Q, due to longevity reasons.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

If you are on a budget, the Intel 660p and 665p are great options. I have a couple of the 660p model in several builds, no problems whatsoever.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 - 3900x @ 4.4GHz with a Custom Loop | MBO: ASUS Crosshair VI Extreme | RAM: 4x4GB Apacer 2666MHz overclocked to 3933MHz with OCZ Reaper HPC Heatsinks | GPU: PowerColor Red Devil 6900XT | SSDs: Intel 660P 512GB SSD and Intel 660P 1TB SSD | HDD: 2x WD Black 6TB and Seagate Backup Plus 8TB External Drive | PSU: Corsair RM1000i | Case: Cooler Master C700P Black Edition | Build Log: here

No, it's in the D tier.

If it's gonna be your OS drive aswell, go for something Tier C and look which of the ones written in orange or blue are the cheapest.

on b list which one is the best, i looked at the kingston kc2500 at 140$ compared to samsung 970 evo + at 170 is it worth paying the extra 30$ for samsung’s longevity?

You will not notice the difference between any of the B tier SSDs in everyday use. Just go for the one that's cheapest. With samsung you often only pay for the brand, nothing else.

It's one of the best in D tier according to the list - probably due to cheap controller. However, it does have DRAM unlike vast majority of the D tier and and TLC cache unlike QLC of Intel 660p (which translates to about 3x terabytes written). The cheap controller is only 4-channel tho unlike 8-channel ones in more expensive ones.

I personally picked it for storage, my boot drive is Samsung PM991, whatever that is.

Pretty much anything from Sabrent, Samsung, ADATA, Corsair and WD.
