nexus 9 skip google sign-in

I recently got given a nexus 9 by a family friend and I tried to set it up and it went fine until it got to the google sign in and it needed the original owners email and password, this tablet was owned by his son and they had created a google account for him. they can't remember the username and password they used. does anyone know how to bypass this or install a custom rom without access to the original OS?

you can just do a hard reset. it will delete everything from the phone and then you can start fresh.

factory reset Steps:

  1. First, switch off the phone by using the Power button.
  2. Afterwards press and hold Volum Down and Power buttons together for a couple of seconds.
  3. You can release held keys when you see Bootloader Mode.
  4. Then press Volume Down to select option "Factory reset", and press Power button to confirm.
  5. Good job!

I think it's like iOS where it's iCloud locked until it's removed.

I won't be surprised if this gets locked though.

OP, do you know how to use ADB?

Right. I use Android day to day, but I don't use ADB much. Do you know if previous owner is still signed in elsewhere?

I don't think so, he had the account just for the tablet and would not have sighed in anywhere else.

Big oof. I don't understand Android users with an account for every device they own. It just makes things harder and more confusing. I don't think it's a bricked OS. Is there a "forgot password" option?

Too bad the storage devices aren't on SD cards anymore. Speaking of SD cards, try the get update from SD card option in recovery options. Flash Android from SD card, I mean
