I feel stupid even asking this question as there are countless posts all over the internet discussing the issue, but I feel like a lot of the people on this forum are more intelligent/knowledgeable than users on others. I've seen different subredits having opposite opinions on the issue, so I wanted to see what people here think. Is XMR mining with my CPU worth it/going to damage it long term? Mine stays around 70C and sometimes lower depending on the temp outside, but it makes me about a dollar day more or less depending on the various factors. As someone who doesn't make a ton of money at his full time job I'll take any amount I can get BUT my CPU is a 5900x which was $500 (and I'd rather not have it die with how the market is right now). I need to try running Clock Tuner for Ryzen to see how that impacts power draw/hash rate, but what do you think? Is it worth it? Do I need to be concerned about shortening the lifespan of my CPU if I was planning on using it for 4ish years? I mined Ethereum back in the day for maybe 6ish months and that GPU worked flawlessly for years, but CPU mining is something I'm less experienced with.

70c is no big deal. I don't know if it's worth it. CPU mining usually not worth it.

If it is, people will probably hoarding 5950x by now.

cpu mining is focused more on the tech rather than profits. the goal of cpu mining to keep the blockchain stable and running smoothly. profits are usually an after thought.

if you want to mine with cpu, I would mine solo or mine in a small pool as mining in the largest pool goes against the whole idea of decentralization.

the whole reason XMR does not allow gpu mining is to keep it more stable

Long term damage on CPUs work similarly to GPUs. As long as heat is under control, it'll be fine.

As for if it's worth it, I wouldn't say it is. A dollar a day really isn't that much in the grand scheme of things.

The more I learn, the more I realise I don't actually know anything.

Recommendations: Lian Li 205m (sleek, pretty decent airflow for a non-mesh front panel and cheap), i5-10400f (Ryzen 5 3600 performance, 20% cheaper), Arctic P14 PWM fans, Logitech g305.
