A strange problem only LTT forums could solve...

Keystoney

I did a fair amount of research before resorting to this, but my problem seems to be 1 in 1000. I JUST purchased a brand new pair of "bluetooth" headphones (in reality they use a 2.4hz dongle thing) NONEtheless when I plug them in to charge they themselves power down. Why in gods name. But I'm hoping to fear not as you great folk may have a hacky open the headphones type solution; for which I'm willing to put under the knife if need. Any additional help would be appreciated like say "oh you're so stupid this is a waste of time and impossible just return them" 🙂

in all fairness the bluetooth headphone market is pretty big and seem to have options for many price points depening on when you bought them and how much it may not actually be worth the effort and risk of breaking a headphone. Im not sure if this would work but have you tried plugin them in via 3.5mm if it has a aux port while charging them? not sure if that could cause damage I would look at the user guide for that.

As a matter of fact, at this moment I have them charging with the 3.5.mm cable in and I did try this with GTA V running. The headphones themselves power down which seems to directly correlate to them working at all.

OK so it turns out I plugged the 3.7mm into the incorrect rear IO port. However this is still not ideal the cable that came with it is far too short. I think the issue would simply resolve if the headphone unit did not power down when plugged in and I think I'd like to try and circumvent that.

I mean, it's possible but unless you have a circuit diagram and electrical engineering background you're not going to find a solution. The action of turning off while charging is an intended 'feature' from the manufacturer.

Even if you had that information, the amount of time it would take to come up with a workaround and do the modification wouldn't be worth your time. Even if you had circuit diagrams and found a good engineer who would work for minimum wage, it would still probably exceed the value of the headphones. In all likelihood, this "feature" was a workaround for something else, which would need to be resolved. Before you know it, you're designing new headphones.

I have feeling that there was probably some unpleasant noise during the charge so engineers just decided to go with easier and cheaper route - just turn them off during the charge. This is just a wild guess.
and I agree that modding them would be just huge waste of time and money.

I think they did it because using headphones while charging them probably kills the battery faster. So they disabled being able to do it cause of it. For the longevity of the product.
