Low budget but good 3D printers

AFB_MD

Hi.

I'd like to start by stating that I'm kind of an impulsive buyer haha. For the longest time I've been curious about 3D Printers but only now I can actually justify, a little tiny bit, getting one.

For a little context:

I'm starting a family business, mainly dedicated to wildlife (mostly birds) photography, publicity and tourism (if you are interested, check <link removed by staff> on instagram, facebook, Twitter and look for it on our Amazon store and patreon. Yes, I'm also shameless). However, I am into drone photography/videography and I'm currently training myself in FPV Drones, and there is certainly an use for 3D printers in the FPV drones' world. Moreover, we also want to start making our own merchandising, in a not very long future, and I can see myself making 3d printed figurines of birds and other stuff and selling them not in big volumes though.

I checked if there was a dedicated section in this forum about 3d printers and didn't find any, so here I am asking all of you people about your advise. Are there any actually good but still inexpensive 3d printers? Do any of you happen to know of a... Idk, sort of getting started guide for 3d printing tha is easy to read and don't require much technical knowledge?

What is inexpensive to you? I think Ender 3's and such are still the go to recommendations or a Prusa if you're willing to shell out some more.

For videos I'd check out channels like 3D Printing Nerd or Makers Muse.

Here's my experience with a Monoprice Select Mini V2:

When it works, it works quite well.

Here's what I've needed to do to get it somewhat reliable:

  • Glass bed and Z-limit insert, masking tape on top of the glass as a tack surface. (Bare glass works when it's really clean and the bed is levelled really good.)
  • Draft sheilding box
  • Avoid ABS. (Though I haven't tried using ABS after I built the box.)
  • Spend a lot of care in levelling the bed. (MP Select Mini Pro has auto levelling.)
  • Take care in keeping filament in a dehumidified environment. I use a storage bucket when not printing, and I have RV dehumificaiton packets in the printing box.

That being said,

Look for printers that have auto bed levelling, and a good bed material. (The MP Select Mini V2 has an aluminum bed prone to warping). Something with draft sheilding is a bonus as well, but not necessary.

  • 1 month later...

if you are really inexperienced, i would suggest to buy a cheap printer.

You can get a ready out of the box printer for around 150-200$

if you go any cheaper the cheapest printer that is still being reccomended is the DIY version  "Anet A8" or a "Tronxy X1"

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE BUY THE EASYTHEAD X1

this is a really trash printer, that is nothing more than a Glorified 3d pen. it will bore you right away, mainly due its extreme small 10x10x10cm bed size
