Is this necklace offensive? Dangerous to wear? It has a symbol on it

Go to solution Solved by WolfLoverPro,

Help... is this offensive to you? I bought this cuz it looked cool...to then find out this is a nasty symbol by a Swedish friend .

i want to know how many people knows what it is and if it’s dangerous to wear in public? I literally had no idea what it was and can’t believe it. I only wanted it because it was cool 😭😭

idk if I’ll be okay in uk because they said it’s trouble if I wore it in Sweden for some reason. I still don’t get it much because apparently it’s a Nordic symbols which idk what they are so to me it don’t mean nothing and looks cool but now I’m worried from them telling me it’s a bad symbol

The Othala rune, also known as the Odal rune, was the badge of the branch of the Nazi SS tasked with maintaining "racial purity."

The number of people who will recognize the symbol is probably small, but some of those that do will definitely think you're a Nazi.

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.

Maybe I’ll try it and see if anyone comes to stab me

but then it feels not good because now I know it literally means I’m a nazi which I don’t want but I only wanna wear it cuz it looks cool

you know warriors like uhhhh idk for example Assassins creed Valhalla they use them stripes on their face? Like that primal sort of hunter warrior face paint thing they do ? That’s literally what thought  it was

I just thought it was a cool wolf warrior or something that has battle stripes bruh 🙄

its personal choice.  people give meaning to thing and simbols  how other peole read them is matther of they experence and understanding. and you probably in uk meet more people interested in ocult than all nazi branches simbols.

It might have been used by the nazis. But to be honest I'd think more people today would see it as a pagan or satanic item given the poor teaching of wwii history on the German side of things.

Just so you’re on the same page, that symbol has been co-opted recently by some white nationalist organizations, due to the link to the SS.

I personally wouldn’t touch that thing with a ten foot pole, and I also wouldn’t want to know the kind of people it’s likely to attract.

Does that mean everyone who likes that symbol is a nazi? No. But to the modern Nazis it’s just another symbol of their superiority.

So your choice? But I sure as hell wouldn’t wear it just on the off chance you might be able to pick up some chicks with it.

It was also used by the nazis, which is where the negative association comes from.

From a swedish perspective:

It is not offensive in itself.

But don't be surprised if you get in trouble (or beat up), because it has been appropriated by Neo-Nazis and thus no one flaunts it that isn't connected to them or share their views. In a bad situation no one will listen to ethmological explanations no matter how "right" you are.

There would be a difference if you had a word or a phrase written in futhark which contains o (that is the equivalent letter), but having that rune in isolation usually means you are affiliated with neo-nazis these days.

At least we can thank our country for being able to take back mjölner pendants that for a time almost got appropriated by the same crowd.

EDIT:// also most rune stones here have a different futhark so o is usually this rune1504813842_Skrmavbild2021-03-23kl_13_26_58.png.daa894bf80e58f224e84fe4bc5647e25.png so no point of having a phrase with odal rune if you go viking.

they stole symbols from even those they hated while praising the symoblic imagery at the same time

To be clear: the nazi's very much understood Norse mythology and saw it as part of their justification for their "superior race" dogma. In fact, they created an entire religion around nazism and the Norse myths were an integral part of it. Another (in)famous nazi symbol, the swastika, has been used in Indian and Asian cultures for at least a millennium prior to the "invention" of nazism in the 1920's.

Disclaimer: I'm not an historian, but do have a strong interest in history. So I often read up on or watch documentaries on various subjects, including WW II.

I know others here are explaining it's history and it's cultural origins - in Scandinavia and Germanic. But just keep in mind you live in the UK, so not everyone is going to understand that historical context.

That symbol has been taken by the National Socialist Movement in the US (AKA actual modern day Nazi White Supremacists).

As I said, definitely your choice, but even the slightest hint of a notion that it's associated with Nazism or white supremacists would be enough to keep me from wearing such a thing.

If you think it's cool, you could always keep it at home to look at. Maybe start collecting nordic (particularly non-Nazi related) symbology or something.
