My RTX 3080 is being outperformed by a friend's 3070?

As the title says, I own an EVGA XC3 3080, and while I've seen benchmarks of people playing warzone at 1440p ultra with 140+ fps, I can barely get over 100. Meanwhile, my friend who owns an Asus ROG strix 3070 is able to get 120+ fps at the exact same settings as me.

Our specs are very similar, with us both using:

Asus Tuf X570-Pro Mobo

Ryzen 5 3600

Rtx 3070/3080

3600Mhz CL18 Ram

I've used MSI afterburner to adjust fan speeds and set a very modest OC, but I can't think of anything that could be causing such huge performance issues.

Is there anything on my pc that could be causing these performance issues, or did I just spend $1200 on a card that doesn't even come close to performing at advertised levels.

Are the other components the same, and are there other programs that use GPU like discord running in the background.

I hate this type of question. There are so many things that can cause issues like this that its insane how one cant think of even one them.

  • Background apps.
  • Your overclock being unstable (particularly your vram, thats a big issue on gddr6 cards).
  • Your overclock might be done wrong, although it is dead simple, I have seen some done wrong.
  • Your drivers could be old.
  • Windows 10 being an absolute piece of shit (happens more often than you can imagine).
  • Those benchmarks you saw might be including older versions of the game, or have the hardware overclocked higher than yours.
  • People overclock the shit out of their cards and always post the best results on internet.
  • Most importantly, people on the internet will lie about everything.

The problem is probably the game, I recommend that you research it because this subject comes up way too often. Word is COD Warzone does not perform like it use to.

Gaming With a 4:3 CRT

System specs below

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X with a Noctua NH-U9S cooler
Motherboard: Gigabyte B450 Aorus M (Because it was cheap)

I can confirm 170fps with 3070, specifically downloaded the game to check .

I will say its rather rough , with ps2 like textures in parts

(high settings) but it does run fast for sure (if inconsistent)

So yeah this is most likely a configuration issue and not 'the game'

BTW i would personally give it  2/10, the levels are nice but wasted with such boring gameplay and otherwise disappointing graphic, that indeed often remind of the glorious ps2  days.

Maybe both. You did test with High detail but not ultra, and there could be a number of things that could cause lower FPS.

I mean yeah, basically most stuff was set to 'high' or highest, but raytracing off, of course...  but considering we don't even have info about the psu, likely the deciding factor here, it's all just speculation. 🤷‍♀️

I'm running an EVGA Supernova GA 750W psu, which as far as I know is in line for my specs

Have you done any benchmarks with Time Spy and/or Port Royal ?

When the test is finished you will see a chart that compares your results with tests done by other users that has the same CPU/GPU combo.

If you are losing performance it is most likely due to: background software or unstable OC
