CPU usage high (75-85% usage) in Warzone: causing stuttering

Hello all so I recently built a pc with a intel i7-9700k and a Radeon 5600xt gpu and I play warzone all the time. I am starting to have a lot of micro stuttering and I look at my Radeon software and they say that My cpu usage is running around 80 average while playing Warzone. I think this is somehow bottlenecking my gpu and causing me to drop frames which then leads to my stuttering. Anyone know any fixes? It’s super annoying

That seems normal...

My i7-8086K sits at 70% ~ 80% usage.

Did you go into the adv_options.ini file and change the values in there?

Before changing the values in the file, I was getting stuttering with my 5700 XT.

Try:

VideoMemoryScale = 0.6

RendererWorkerCount = 8

RenderThreads - Core Usages
Files Location - Documents\Call of Duty Modern Warfare\players\AdvOptions.ini

RendererWorkerCount = 2 (Yours might be at 4 for 8 cores, it might be too high)

Try setting 2 or 3 as a value if its set above that.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

Something else is wrong, 9700k runs fine in warzone on stock. You don't need to change anything. Check memory settings. Is your ME firmware up to date, bios, etc?

❗ I'm calling the cops! 😉

(I think they actually track that stuff, but it would be hilarious they'd ban people for 'ini hacking' I guess...)

70% ~ 80%

 while that's pretty high (I get like 30-60%) it really shouldn't be a problem, cpu bottleneck is if you're like constantly at ~98, 99% (been there done that, with a Ryzen 2200G lol)

Have you tried setting it to dynamic resolution? it could help in your situation for sure.

Also locking the framerate helps a lot, I've noticed I get actually higher frames on average (subjectively) with it, it's set to 120fps, that's my 'threshold' over and it starts to fluctuate heavily.

I thought it was optimal to give as much workers / cores for the game to work with.

Believe default is 4; manually changed mine to 6, since the 8086K is a 6-core / 12-thread chip.

Apparently they don't check it.

In fact, in Black Ops Cold War, those changes are available through the in-game settings.

You only have options 0.7 / 0.8 / 0.9 for the VIdeoMemoryScaling via in-game, but has the options of 0.5 ~ 1.0 directly through the ini file.

You edit the settings in-game, and it just updates the ini file values.

Warzone seems to have a VRAM memory leak or some sort, or just hates AMD GPUs.

If I leave the VideoMemoryScaling at default = 0.8, the VRAM usuage will start at ~7GB, and then eventually climb.... 8GB, 8.5GB, 9GB...

Until the GPU runs out of VRAM and starts swapping, and the stutter mess begins.

I've seen it climb into the 10GB range...on my 5700 XT....like WTF. the GPU *only* has 8GB, why it is trying to use 10GB ??

At least for me, lowering the VideoMemoryScalilng value fixed that issue, and for good.

Same with Black Ops Cold War.

ah, OK that makes sense then, because I haven't seen this behavior on my gpu, it's always around 7.5GB seemingly, but I've never played longer than an hour or so, so I can't say for sure NV gpus wouldn't have the same issue.

And I was just joking - but I did actually read something like 'do not touch the ini' when signing up for this... lol

  • 1 year later...

9700k only has 1 5.1ghz core, so go into your uefi and change the core clocks all to 4600 which is your lowest core speed. Then go into the Documents\Call of Duty Modern Warfare\players\AdvOptions.ini and change the workercount to 8 (your max number of 4600 cores) Basically the game is playing off 1 core.
