Yamaha Hs7 speakers not making sound! Using Audient id4 M1 audio interface

I just bought a pair of Yamaha hs7 studio monitors and am trying to configure both the id4 audio interface and monitors on my computer. the id4 is connected to the computer via usb and I am using unbalanced quarter inch to quarter inch trs cables that are connected to my interface. For some reason no sound is coming out! can someone please help

Is the interface selected as the output device?
In windows open settings -> System -> go down to Sound men. Then the top drop down menu does it say something to do with audient interface 

No idea how to do that in Mac

 

My next suggestion is the speaker has a automatic off when it doesnt get a signal for a while to save power. Maybe just try turning up the gain a bit.

Double check that both your interface and the speakers are powered and that the interface is selected as your output device, also check that th speakers are connected to your interface outputs and not inputs and I think that basically covers your bases.
