How do I choose ram for Ryzen?

Go to solution Solved by Pixelfie,

You can buy any 3200 stick. It will lock itself to 2667 for the 1600x, but when you upgrade to 3600x it will go up to 3200. I have HyperX Fury 16gb 2x8 3200, so far they have been great! Honestly, I'd recommend picking up whatever has the best price & warranty for you. For 87 you're likely gonna get 3200 16gb.

Budget (including currency): 87usd

Country: us

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: cod

I want to buy a Ryzen 5 1600x, but i do not know what ram to buy. I also want to upgrade to a Ryzen 5 3600x. The specs for the 1600x say the max speed is 2667 but for the 3600x says 3200, so can I buy 3200 speed and use it for both? what ram do you suggest?

Instead of buying a 1600x and then upgrading to a 3600x, you could buy a 1600AF which is basically a 2600. I'm not up to speed with the ram speeds supported by ryzen 2nd gen, but you could probably buy a 3000/3200 Mhz RAM.

Edit: I wasn't aware of US pricings. Just buy whatever you have to, it'd be better to just get a 3600 with a b550/450 now.

Yeah I’m planning to upgrade my cpu to the ryzen 5 3600x to but  I have ram that is pretty good it’s teamgroup t-force 3200hz 16gb kit 2x8 and trust me it’s impossible to find a single teamgroup t-force 3200hz 8gb stick.

Good luck finding a 1600 AF for what it used to sell for. It was a year ago that the hype for the CPU was high, and they haven't done another drop of it in a long while, if ever again. I went looking on ebay and they were all going for $160 and up. I ended up just buying a R5 3600 and a B550 board (incompatible with Zen/Zen+) at Best Buy because both were at MSRP.

Fuck you scalpers, fuck you scammers, fuck all of you jerks that charge way too much to tech-illiterate people.

Unless I say I am speaking from experience or can confirm my expertise, assume it is an educated guess.

Current setup: Ryzen 5 3600, MSI MPG B550, 2x8GB DDR4-3200, RX 5600 XT (+120 core, +320 Mem), 1TB WD SN550, 1TB Team MP33, 2TB Seagate Barracuda Compute, 500GB Samsung 860 Evo, Corsair 4000D Airflow, 650W 80+ Gold. Razer peripherals.

Also have a Alienware Alpha R1: i3-4170T, GTX 860M (≈ a 750 Ti). 2x4GB DDR3L-1600, Crucial MX500

The specs posted from amd themselves. it has only wins in the fact that is tdp is lower but my power supluy is 200 wats overkill so im fine for everything.

For me I just picked a mobo I wanted to buy. Then I checked its QVL against some ram I was interested in. Then I checked its QVL against the mobo I wanted. Everything matched up and that's what I bought. Its been awesome. No problems, overclocks like crazy. Excellent. Personally, I am glad I chose the components I did, because it rips and is stable AF.

AMD R7 5800X3D | Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 EVO, 1x T30

Asus Crosshair VIII Dark Hero | 32GB G.Skill Trident Z @ 3733C14

Zotac 4070 Ti Trinity OC @ 3060/1495 | WD SN850, SN850X, SN770

Seasonic Vertex GX-1000 | Fractal Torrent Compact RGB, Many CFM's

Not sure what you mean by the specs posted by AMD. If you mean clock speed then that is irrelevant. The 1600AF is an R5 2600 in all but name. There might not be a huge difference, but the 1600AF will have a slight advantage in most games.

I meant I went to AMD's spec sheet and there was no difference other then wattage. I don't understand why you would want to miss out on so many MHZ on your CPU either.
