SSD+HDD vs just SSD

bungusboy81

Is it better to have an SSD and an HDD or just an SSD? I don't wanna spend any more money than I need to and I don't wanna sacrifice performance. Thank you in advance!

Edit: I'm unlikely to have any more than 200GB of storage taken up by the end of the PC's life.

It depends on your use case.

If you don't need much storage, then just one SSD.

If you do need lots of storage but for not very much money, then a smaller (~500GB) SSD boot drive and a 2+TB HDD.

I personally use a 128GB SSD for my boot drive and then hard drives for everything else, though you can make your own choices.

I've had my PC rn for about 5 years and I've only taken up 200GB. Would I be better off with a 1TB SSD?

What storage solution do you have currently, and what do you use your PC for?

SSDs are the best option for price per performance.

HDDs are the best option for price per capacity.

Since ideally we want both capacity and performance at a good price, people tend to go with a SSD+HDD combo.

I have a 1TB HDD now, and I use my PC for light gaming and my family uses it for homework and printing reports for work.

Unless it's not doing what you need it to, leave it alone. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Well I'm looking to buy a new machine and there's an option for a 1TB SSD on it, so would that be a good idea?

Which machine?
Are you buying a prebuilt or building it yourself?

It's a prebuilt from dell, I've already decided that I want to buy it, but I haven't decided on the storage.

If there's one thing we can tell you, it's stay away from Dell.

Get at least 512GB SSD.
If thats not enough you can easily buy a big mechanical (or even another SSD) and put that in.

If you only use 200GB then maybe the 1TB (5 times as much) maybe no worth the money. 😉

And this DEFINATLY, watch the video.
Then choose another manufacterer, cus the headache isnt worth the moneys.

If you ever want to play modern games some of those take close to 250GB on their own, so plan with that. Anyway 1TB SSD is dirt cheap now.
