Running Windows on a Chromebook has always been hard. But a partnership between Google and Parallels has made things easier - for the enterprise, at least.

Originally, yes, but now Google's more or less transitioning it away from that and making ChromeOS more useful for general use as well as the enterprise.

Haha, like any entry level job gets to choose what laptop they get.

 

Heck, I (five+ years into this job) was in charge of validating the one option of a laptop that I&T was giving us for our department, and they literally would not budge when I told them it wasn't what we needed (and so here I am on an i7-10whatever 32GB RAM with a freakin' Quadro T1000 to do 2D CAD work; nice job with the budget, bro). I&T didn't want to support more than three or four models for the whole multinational company, because *pshaw* who's heard of specialization before? And it's not like Dell doesn't offer custom building services, amiright?

Maybe I'm so far into the engineering realm (been here solidly for almost a decade) that I can't imagine a job that doesn't require either Windows-specific (most engineering), Mac-specific (a lot of art), or *gasp* runs in Linux (academia), that Chrome OS would somehow need to be better (not at parity, but actually better) at everything before any one platform can be taken over, and I just don't see that happening. Like, the fact that there are jobs that are just writing in Word all day boggles me a bit...

when i looked more about it, the application is open source too and easy to use, they have guides for beginner miners, rookies etc. so definetely a good choice made by linus for sponsorship...

you can also do a quick mining on the website as part of a demo or to give you an idea...

If it is the policy of the company or school that one must use a Chromebook, then one might use a different notebook with ChromeOS installed on it. There is a lot of pressure to outsource the cost of the security and maintenance to a browser, so if one has a choice of hardware, then it might be better than the  available Chromebooks.
