No post, fans spin up. Need Bios update??

B450m-a motherboard

Ryzen 5 1600

Corsaire Vengeance LPX 8gb (2x4gb)

The symptoms: The power button doesnt work, but i can turn it on by touching the two power pins with a screwdriver, then the fans spin up, it sounds like its on for 20 seconds, screen stays black, and it then shuts down.

Pcpartpicker told me my parts were compatible. But do i need to update the bios on this motherboard for it to work? I dont have access to an old cpu so cant get into the bios to do that.

I've tried to re-set the bios, and have moved the ram around in near every combination. From googling i suspect its this bios update issue.

Can i update the bios without getting into the bios?

Something went wrong when building the PC. Trace your steps. No manufacturer would make a MB that needs a bios update just to work

Just find a cheap GPU on the 2nd hand market and slap it in there, you'll be good to go. You can find a GTX 650 or 750 for under 30 on Ebay.

Wait... does this explain why the power button doesnt work? I have to connect the pins with a screwdriver to start it... i suppose it'll help to diagnose once i have a working screen. I might return once i have a graphics card

That sounds like you just accidentally got the pins wrong. Without a GPU, it should still try to POST(like it does when you start the machine with a screwdriver)

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.
