I'm going to get the digital crap beat out of myself for saying this. I don't like RGB. I much prefer a solid color, preferably red or white. It's more cable management that you don't need to do, and more software to install. Does anyone agree, or am I going to get launched out of this forum like a Saturn V rocket?

there are 7.7 billion people in this world. some are going to like RGB, others don't.

just because companies and YouTube channels are putting such an emphasis on RGB, doesn't mean everyone likes it. it's just that these companies/YouTube channels are mostly talking about their "show off" PC's.

personally, I am a fan of functional RGB. think lights to indicate if a component is running warm, or a keyboard with lights to at a glance see what letter is where, even if it's dark (thankfully I've gotten better at typing over the years and need it less and less, it's mainly for those pesky symbols above the numbers).

Yeah you're definitely not alone on it. The only place I care to have RGB nonsense is in my keyboard. Whenever I start building a new PC I'll probably go out of my way to disable RGB without installing software for it.

I am also a fan of functional lighting. I was thinking the other day about if there was a keyboard that changed the backlight color depending on if you had caps lock/numlock on. Maybe a CPU cooler, that, like you said, indicates if something is too hot. But when people just throw a bunch of lights into their build, and they are uncoordinated/not functional, I just don't get it.

Mine already does that with Caps Lock, Num Lock and Scroll Lock

well, partially. it turns on the light on those keys.

With QMK - an open source keyboard firmware, used with some niche mechanical keyboards - does support lighting up the whole keyboard a certain color when caps/num/scroll lock is pressed down.

My EVGA videocard actually supports that, but it's kind of a niche thing to be honest. I know my videocard doesn't run too hot, because I have benchmarked it as such, so why would I need to know its temps now?

but indeed, just throwing LED in a product to be able to put "RGB!" on the box is often a waste.

rgb is cheap and it can increase the cost probably like %20 so why not?

Because that +20% could also be spent on something that increases performance or enjoyment of the product.

I don't dislike RGB as a whole, but nowadays I would only really spend the extra if it's extra functionality, or if I really want it.

RGB or aRGB both have it's own good and bad. I guess is up to individual to see it. Younger generation wants cool stuff, flashy stuff unlike wiser generation, they want performance. Honestly speaking when I see most with aRGB, is that really call aesthetic? to me are not, it will only bring more heat to your case. as for aesthetic.. this is what I call aesthetic https://www.million-dollar-pc.com/systems-2017/wing-x99/wing-x99.htm

My opinion is.. no point over flooded with aRGB or RGB where it draws unnecessary power for PSU and also to introduce more heat in a case, I rather distribute those power to PC components which needs the juice.

For my current build I bought RGB fans, RAM, LED strip, and a GPU with RGB; and I discovered something unpleasant about white LEDs. They come in different colours and look crap. So now my case is a mix of blue and purple lighting.

RGB Software is annoying. Sometimes my MSI motherboard software will pick up the ram RGB and make it a different colour, sometimes I have to launch the corsair software. It would be nice if I could control everything from BIOS and not have to use any Windows software.
