5900x has terrible thermals, need help!

Running everything at stock, the CPU runs idle at 75-80C, I've tried reapplying the paste and cooler to no avail.

I found that my mobo has an "auto tweaker" function, which lowered temps to 45-50C, but the clocks were limited to 3.9GHz. I'm guessing this rules out the issue of the cooler?

 

Both scenarios are pretty bad, so what settings/programs should I use to optimize this? Better thermals, but not sacrificing my clock speeds? As I am a total newbie when it comes to CPU configuration, any help would be appreciated!

 

EDIT:

I tried to experiment a bit through the use of auto-tweak in AI Suite 3, which brought idle down to 55-60C, and I boosted the multiplier to 44x (to 4.4GHz). Benchmark scores improved, but all the CPU cores ran at pretty much 4.4GHz all the time. Is this safe?

under what load?

if it's all core 100% at cinebench or similar tasks, that's absolutely normal for stock settings

in fact, slightly lower than expected, as normally i would expect 80-83c, depending on ambient temp

Sorry I worded that wrong. Those are idle temps just on desktop >.<

1) did u remove the plastic on the cooler's coldplate (if any)?

2) did you screw in the cooler until you feel a stop? if not then it's not having enough pressure

3) are the fans spinning?

Cinebench temps (from 75C idle) is 83C, but the score is terrible, only at 7250-7350pts

All of this as far as I know is stock except for DOCP

try to make a negative voltage offset rom bies- lie -0.05V at first. that will reduce voltage at idle.

your cpu does not seem to be idle since it uses like 70W of power. that is pretty big usage for idle.

It's running over 1.4v idle, that's a lot.

 

Btw, is the heatsink warm/hot to the touch when the CPU is running at these temperatures?

If no, then it's still parly a contact issue.

I had that board once and it had the feature. almost everyboard does.

If they are not in the manual, that doesn ot mean that they do not exist. they should be under the ai tweaker tab on advanced mode.

Looking at HWMonitor while just on chrome, it seems like theyre all running at 1.4v

Did I do this right? Max voltage dropped from 1.45v to ~1.41 (temps are pretty much the same though)

This is what it looks like now. Are there any more BIOS settings I could use to help temps? The rest of the board is on stock bios version 3202

what power plan are you on? you should use balanced, not max performance, to allow the cpu to downclock when idle.

your clocks are a bit high. like all corees 3+ghz. normally at idle 1-2 cores should be at 4.5ghz+ others at sleep
