My 3070 won't load textures properly?

OnlyAxolotl

Testing Apex, the textures if many assets are switching between low-high texture options. Can see that strafing back and forth. I went to another game and it was the same.

Benchmarks aren't seeming to do it (although the shadows in heaven on the first houses are shimmering, which a friend confirmed is happening for them, but I cant see that in a video.

I underclocked the Vram and core clocks and its the same

1. Reinstalled windows

2. DDU'd to older drivers

3. Changed settings

My fps is locked and the same thing happens with different texture settings.

Is my 3070 broken, I really hope not after all I've tried to get a working PC!

Check if XMP is on in bios, that could cause textures to load slowly. In terms of power you are good, I would prefer 750 Watts but you don't have any mechanical drives so there is a bit of headroom still. Why underclock at all? Do you have temperature issues in your case?

do a super position benchmark or something and compare it online...

Here's mine:  keep in mind the card is under clocked, still seems to keep up with most other results

apparently it's the new thing to do! 🤣

Anyways if you manage to run superposition to compare I would recommend you to do that at *default* settings, seeing that you complain about bad texture loading or whatever at least hints at faulty settings imo, especially under clocking the RAM seems highly... counter productive.

I turned off DOCP. Why would that cause texture problems?

I'm thinking more of a graphic settings than hardware fault

Some game allows varying texture quality based on fps

Or games just be that way, and can you show videos of it happening perhaps?

Ill run that test later.

I was underclocking the VRAM to see if it wasn't able to run at its rated speed but the problem persisted.

yeah that's possible, but wouldn't "under clocking the VRAM" and also turning off XMP possibly cause issues?  I mean it sounds pretty sus to me.

I've always been underclocking (well, undervolt but +core/+mem) and I don't see any issues

Sometimes it's just people upgrading and paying attention to details, and catch some of the things they never noticed before like texture pop-in and such, when it's just how game runs

Yeah originally I thought it was only a bug in Apex. It didn't happen on my 1070 and I was with a friend with a 1060 who streamed for me and the textures weren't changing.

Can make a video later for sure

Here is a video of the problem. My friend doesn't have the issue and I didn't used to either.

i see, the distance is awfully close

is there a setting that changes that? some games do

texture based on fps and such, or perhaps render distance or something

it's definitely weird if you say it doesnt happen on other's pc, but it's probably not hardware side of things, probably software/settings

doesnt look like artifacts too

check if there's a setting for LOD, draw distance, etc and set it all to max!

Also I'm still not convinced that lower speed than supposed ram has no influence on an ram intensive task... not saying it necessarily does but it wouldn't surprise me if there's a connection in certain situations.

This is how it's called in the game I'm playing

"LOD bias"

and

"Max LOD level"

(it's often several settings for this due to impact full and resource hungry it usually is)

Thanks, going to look for that in the Config because there isn't any in apex settings only texture streaming budget. Ill let you know if it works

Originally I was thinking it is a bug in apex with the 3070 and the 5600x, but re-installs aren't doing anything. Yeah it doesn't look like artifacts and if it were the GPU it wouldn't just be specific textures right?

If it were hardware issue I would expect much worse things to happen like artifacts flashing everywhere and such

This seems consistent, which tells me it's intended to happen, whether intentional or not.

As for a fix, if you tried DDU and tweaking game settings, nothing much else I can say tbh

So I went into the apex config and found LOD scale. I set it to 1.0 and mad eth file read only. The issue is drastically reduced but still there slightly.

Must be a bug, if it were my hardware then changing the LOD scale wouldn't have done that.  Guess the two games I tested don't like the 3070 yet or the issues haven't been discovered!!

So I found the config and changed LOD scale to 1.0. The issues was massively reduced but is still there, I'm guessing the games I tested haven't optimized for the 3070 yet!

Did you manage to fix this issue? I have the same exact issue but on a 3080. Super frustrating and I have it spanning across multiple games.

Edit: Video for reference

You should probably make a new thread for this.

And honestly i dont see any real issues at all in this video, except  a few pop ups here and there, which isnt really too unusual.

But others may see the issues  though (not saying there isnt but i dont really see it, except some pop ups?)

Yeah probably, I'll make a new thread. Was just hoping OP might've found a fix by now so we don't have to theorize what the issue is.

And yeah, maybe not the best video to display the issues but I just made it quick. Lots of textures rendering in right in front of me and only a few feet ahead of me in most games. When playing FPS's or general competitive games seeing everything turn to smush when I'm 2 foot away then rendering in soon as I get next to it is extremely off putting and isn't natural or intended. Never had these issues with my old card before I upgraded.

yeah true he may see it. but he already kinda tried a fix, reducing the draw distance if i understand this right. Now I dont think there should be a lot of popups with a 3080, but it could at least point at what the issue is.

It probably also depends on the games, like i always put draw distance / lod to max and i dont get any popups, except in some cheaply made ps3 era games maybe - which isnt my card, its the games that are to blame in these cases.
