A file server or maybe even a media server, all you need is some free software.

If it's connected to the internet you can set it to fold, it won't get much but every little bit helps.

I found something like that once. I threw a 6570 in it and sold it as a "mine craft gaming pc" to my cousin for $200
because that was all he played and also all the pc could run

You could make a back up server, where you could back up your info in your current PC/Mac.

When I have no use for old PC's I either mod the hell out of them, or I see how long it will take me to get a BSOD, and then try to beat my time. It seems like a stupid thing to do, but its quite entertaining.

I budget build well. Want to learn? PM me if you want advice.

I use an old PC as a feet rest under my desk. It's the perfect height~

Other than that, I guess try to sell the parts. My old PCs generally consume too much power for them to be worth using as HTPC.
