Is it possible to use my laptop's screen as a secondary display/monitor via a wired connection over HDMI or DisplayPort?

I was wondering if it is possible to do so. A follow up question, can I use a raspberry pi to output to a laptop screen?

If your laptop has a HDMI in port, then yes. Grand majority of laptops do not have one.

Either just get a cheap display to solve this the easy way, or get a capture card to use with the laptop to get the picture from external device.

I am gonna guess a 4 year old MSI gaming laptop is definitely not gonna be having a HDMI IN or DP IN port.

It wont.
