Help! Need Help Building Future-Proofed Luxury Machine

Gidipidy

Budget (including currency): $3000 (USD)

Country: United States

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: I would like to build a new PC for streaming and gaming. I play games with lower spec requirements like Minecraft, but I also play an equal amount of bigger triple A titles, and my ideal PC would be able to run these games at max settings/performance without compromising streaming, and vice versa.

Other details:  I would like to make use of the newest generation of graphics card (I do not know which is the most optimal for what), I would prefer using a high quality 4K monitor, and If possible within budget I would like it to run at 144Hz. I plan on buying parts throughout this year, and ideally I would like the build to be done by the start of next year or sooner.

I have virtually no background/knowledge of computers, and being that I haven't had a great deal of time over the past few years, I figured I would try to ask a community that would be able to help me plan this out. Any and all advice/recommendations/build lists are very much so appreciated. If you need more details, or if you have any more questions, I'm sorry I didn't cover it in this initial post, but I will answer to the best of my ability.

you are going to need to swap out your GPU every gen. CPU+board+ram every 2-4 years. storage+case+PSU+cooling can be future proofed but that is about it.

1440p 144 is the sweet spot

Are you absolutely set on going with 4K? At least to me, it sounds like 1440p would make a lot more sense considering what you're after.

I'd look at something along the lines of:

If you also plan on doing some content creation on the side, while the 5600X is still no slouch, you could bump it up to a 5800X or 5900X, if you so desire.

Other than that, Nvidia's rumoured to be releasing a "3080Ti" probably later this year, so depending on when you actually plan on buying the parts that could be something to consider, though keep in mind that we haven't got any official confirmation yet on that. AMD's also an option with the 6800XT, though for streaming I'd take Nvidia over AMD because of the superior hardware encoder.

Desktop: Intel Core i9-9900K | ASUS Strix Z390-F | G.Skill Trident Z Neo 2x16GB 3200MHz CL14 | EVGA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER XC Ultra | Corsair RM650x | Fractal Design Define R6

Laptop: 2018 Apple MacBook Pro 13"  --  i5-8259U | 8GB LPDDR3 | 512GB NVMe

Peripherals: Leopold FC660C w/ Topre Silent 45g | Logitech MX Master 3 & Razer Basilisk X HyperSpeed | HIFIMAN HE400se & iFi ZEN DAC | Audio-Technica AT2020USB+

I'd go 6800xt/6900xt over the 3080 for 1440p 144hz gaming. the extra VRAM is needed

LTT horrible test of the encoder at like 3.5k tells us nothing.

Yeah I’m also waiting for some more detailed testing of VCN 3.0, though I think it’s safe to say that it won’t beat NVENC. Even if it matches it, Nvidia’s feature set for streamers is still superior on paper.

I think 10GB of VRAM is plenty for 1440p gaming, today. A few years from now, however - who knows.

That’s why I’d ideally wait for the rumoured 20GB 3080Ti. Either that, or a 6800XT, if waiting’s not an option (well, not like you can actually buy a 6800XT now, or even a 3080, but you get the point) and if Nvidia’s feature set isn’t that appealing to OP.

10gb is not enough now even old game like R6 can eat up 6-8gb at1440p. their "features" are meh

How is it not enough? I had no problems at 1440p with 8GB of VRAM, and I’ve seen zero legitimate reviewers so far complaining about the lack of VRAM at 4K, let alone 1440p.

Their features could be meh to you but not to OP - it’s up to the end user, ultimately.

Well if we haven’t seen many next-gen games, then what makes you so sure that 10GB won’t be enough and 16GB will?

I also can’t recall HUB saying that they ran into any VRAM limitations, but I might rewatch their review later to check.

16gb is what the new consoles have kinda hard to hit that limit at launch

Regardless, you said 10GB aren’t enough now.

Trying to predict/guess what requirements will be years from now and how often someone upgrades their hardware is rather stupid, so I think continuing this discussion is pointless.

I'm not trying to predict years I don't do that. I'm talking months 8-10gbs will be used up with high quality textures+other stuff at 1440p or 4k
