ROG Thor in P500A

rajjo_04

Hi,

I'm building a new pc and I've already got the case which is Phanteks P500A. I really like the ROG Thor 850W psu and willing to buy it but the fact that the fan of the psu is on the top is bothering me. If I put it the fan side up is there any risk given that the psu shroud completely covers the psu with very little room for air intake. Is anyone else running the same config? Please suggest me what should I do. Thank you.

yes, its best to turn it upside-down so it can breath in air through the bottom.

Flip it so the fan is facing down. Otherwise you will completely suffocate the PSU. That and save some money and get an equal PSU in terms of build quality, but one that costs less.

Refer to this list:

Look at Tier A options.

Assuming USD I recommend:

Super well regarded PSU, great build quality with 10-year warranty.

If you ask me, if you really want to see how much power your system is drawing without a kill-a-watt, get a Corsair RMi/HXi.

Not only do you get digital control and more detailed monitoring, but you also won't be relying on a screen mounted to your PSU that could very well go bad in a couple of years. And you can mount it fan side down.

Desktop: Intel Core i9-9900K | ASUS Strix Z390-F | G.Skill Trident Z Neo 2x16GB 3200MHz CL14 | EVGA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER XC Ultra | Corsair RM650x | Fractal Design Define R6

Laptop: 2018 Apple MacBook Pro 13"  --  i5-8259U | 8GB LPDDR3 | 512GB NVMe

Peripherals: Leopold FC660C w/ Topre Silent 45g | Logitech MX Master 3 & Razer Basilisk X HyperSpeed | HIFIMAN HE400se & iFi ZEN DAC | Audio-Technica AT2020USB+

Display: Gigabyte G34WQC

Um it has a display which shows power usage and putting it upside down means you can't see the display.

Thanks since putting it upside down beats the purpose of it's premium over other of the same category I'll look into the ones you suggested.

Yeah I was looking for them at first. Apparently they have been discontinued and are hella hard to find.

its worth noting that its essentially a overpriced Focus GX. so there are nicer PSUs to go for that dont have a gimmick.
