at 1080p? If you turn on RT effects, use 3080. Or 3070, cuz AMD is just not competitive here. If you wont be going beyond 1440p 16:9 anytime soon, then 6800XT itself is still the better choice but it's a minor difference. Also custom models should still be the focus, this time the reference cooler doesnt suck but at the same time, is not impressive. Increasing the power draw by raising the power limit causes temperature and noise level to significantly soar for example.

Yeah I said screw it and picked up a 5700XT. Not like RT or DLSS is in any other games outside of Control and Metro.

I feel like Ray Tracing and DLSS are in a similar state as Pixel Shaders were when the GeForce 3 Ti came out. Yeah it had pixel shading, but it sucked at it.

The 6800XT should be better performing in everything but absurd levels of unoptimized raytracing with the 5600X and a 500 series motherboard. The 6800XT outperforms the RTX 3000 series in Dirt 5 with raytracing because Dirt 5 is using properly optimized raytracing.

At 1080p, I'm not sure either is worth it. You could probably move down to the 3060 tier and be fine.

Also what refresh rate are you targeting? I'm at 1440p 165Hz and was considering a 3070. Maybe a 3080 in case I want to be able to upgrade to 1440p ultrawide.

As far as AMD vs. Nvidia, I'm still leaning towards Nvidia for the drivers and feature set, but I don't think the new AMD would be bad either.

Though tbf, I'd really like to see a comparison with shadow play instead of OBS (also I don't recall relive being that bad, it just had issues with framerates, image quality seemed on par, using a 5500 xt)

I mean the game looks like shit on everything, but the framerates don't look good for AMD, even with RT off, apparently.

And again, idk if that's a good comparison, seems highly biased for Nvidia, I mean the AMD doesn't even get a settings overlay... 🤔

As always don't believe yt videos, check for yourself then you can't get (overly) disappointed...

I dont feel the calculation is that different than the 5700XT vs 2070Super argument.

Seems like at least so far AMD drivers arent an issue, which is great, but I have been burned too many times not to keep a stank eye on them until I am absolutely sure

Really the same argument though with slight modification.  Price a little more on 3080.  Little more frames on 3080.  Ray tracing better on 3080 (RT has a narrower gap now, as there was nothing before from AMD).  But AMD does have RT at a little lower price.

Funny thing is at this point everyone will probably buy whatever they can get their hands on with this crazy demand.  I would go Nvidia myself, but only because I was burned by AMD too many times to fully trust them (though I am sure other have Nvidia stories of the same sort).

That is what i thought about. 6800XT= 5700XT and 3080=2070S. 5700XT is a better buy for users who do not use RT and record. 2070s to who record a lot and use RT.

Ray Tracing and DLSS are still very raw in performance and game library. Ok, maybe not DLSS, but thats a software implementation over hardware requirements. But I would not hold my hopes for a decent library with RT support any time soon. I would be exited, if devs would roll out RT patches or DLCs (like with 4K DLCs when 4K became a stable thing). 2 generations from now, I would predict RT to be mature enough to be a sell point. And at that point, its the 5 year upgrade time again...

For 1080p I would wait for the lower tier AMD/Nvidia cards 3060/3060Ti if you want to dabble in RTX or AMD 6600 if it ever appears.

With sotcks the way they are, you are going to have to wait anyway or pay two to three times MSRP, at which point the €/fps goes out the window

That is what i thought about. 6800XT= 5700XT and 3080=2070S. 5700XT is a better buy for users who do not use RT and record. 2070s to who record a lot and use RT.

I agree with this. Additionally, Nvidia has a bit more perf and more features for $50 more so basically it's your own choice depending on what you want and whether those $50 make a difference for you.

At 1080p I'd get a 3070 though, since it's cheaper and will perform really well
