Overclocking a intel i7 9700k

Devgro

I have a asus rog strix z370-f with a new i7 9700k. I saw a video on overclocking the settings and followed it but after about 15min of gameplay I freeze or blue screen. I monitored my temps and it’s a solid 60-65c. This is my first time trying to overclock so I have no idea what’s wrong

Copying settings is ok, but expecting it to be stable is never the right thing to do since all CPU's overclock differently, different tolerances and of course silicon quality can differ a lot chip to chip within the same family of processors.

Motherboards can also differ somewhat on ability too, though rarer.

My computer for gaming & work. AMD Ryzen 3600x with XFR support on - Arctic Cooling LF II - ASUS Prime X570-P - Gigabyte 5700XT - 32GB Geil Orion 3600 - Crucial P1 1TB NVME - Crucial BX 500 SSD - EVGA GQ 650w - NZXT Phantom 820 Gun Metal Grey colour - Samsung C27FG73FU monitor - Blue snowball mic - External best connectivity 24 bit/ 96khz DAC headphone amp -Pioneer SE-205 headphone - Focal Auditor 130mm speakers in custom sealed boxes - inPhase audio XT 8 V2 wired at 2ohm 300RMS custom slot port compact box - Vibe Audio PowerBox 400.1

So what exactly did you do?

Might have applied too little voltage or the frequency is just too much for your particular CPU to handle.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

i had about 1.3, would that have been too little voltage?

You didn't tell us the speed. The voltage is proportional to the speed.

Settings are the same as this video

I definitely thing the load line calibration setting shouldn't be all the way at 6 if you're just starting out with an OC

I didn't see the part where this user set the vcore but I don't think you should copy exactly. Also set the per-core speeds to be different, so the 1-core speed is like 5.3 or 5.2.

You can never copy someone elses overclocking settings word for word. Every CPU is capable of different things at different settings and you need to test; tune and tweak until you find the settings your CPU needs to be overclocked properly. So tweak your voltage up a bit first and go from there. Use the settings they provide as a springboard to find your own tune, not as an absolute.

The New Machine: Intel 11700K / Strix Z590-A WIFI II / Patriot Viper Steel 4400MHz 2x8GB / Gigabyte RTX 3080 Gaming OC w/ Bykski WB / x4 1TB SSDs (x2 M.2, x2 2.5) / Corsair 5000D Airflow White / EVGA G6 1000W / Custom Loop CPU & GPU

The Rainbow X58: i7 975 Extreme Edition @4.2GHz, Asus Sabertooth X58, 6x2GB Mushkin Redline DDR3-1600 @2000MHz, SP 256GB Gen3 M.2 w/ Sabrent M.2 to PCI-E, Inno3D GTX 580 x2 SLI w/ Heatkiller waterblocks, Custom loop in NZXT Phantom White, Corsair XR7 360 rad hanging off the rear end, 360 slim rad up top. RGB everywhere.
