Enough Cooling for Ryzen 5800X?

Go to solution Solved by boggy77,

any specific reason he wants that cooler? it's enough for stock operation or a slight overclock, but don't expect it to be quiet or cool.

Nice simple question: my friend has purchased himself a 5800X and wants to pair it with a SHADOW ROCK TF 2 cooler from bequiet!

I say that it's not enough based on my experience with a 3700X but my results may be skewed by a missing EPS12V connection.

What do you guys think?

Does he already have that cooler? If so, just use it and see what the results are.

the supplementary CPU power on motherboards is a non-factor for air cooled operation, only comes into play for the most extreme overclocking.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

I have no idea why he wanted that one. I recommended the Noctua NH-U14S but he wanted a low profile. My alternative was going to be the BeQuite! Dark Rock TF but it's only advantage over the Noctua is a slight height reduction (as well as improved cooling) but is otherwise massive.

He is using a full sized tower case so I can see no reason to go low profile anyway.

Thanks for help.

the dark rock tf is much better if he really really wants a low profile cooler. but yes, it doesn't really make sense if the case allows for a bigger one
