PC won't boot after installing a new M.2 despite me having Windows 10 on my current Hard Drive

Stannis_The_Mannis

Hi guys.

So a few days ago I bought a Kingston A400 120GB M.2 SSD to add to my storage and maybe move my OS onto it as my OS iss on my hard drive. But after installing the SSD into my motherboard (Gigabyte B450 AORUS Elite) and turning my pc back on again, it asks me to insert boot media and press a key.

Upon seeing this I tried to create boot media with the Windows tool. I moved the boot media onto a USB stick i had. So I tried again with the SSD and still it comes up asking me to insert boot media. I tried using a free trial of a partitioning/general storage management thing called AOMEI but I wasn't going to spend more money on something that I might be able to fix asking this forum.

How should I try to get my Windows 10 to onto my new SSD

I don't know the product activation key or have a disc or anything in case that might be helpful.

Thanks for any responses

Move your hard drive SATA cable.

Your hard drive is likely plugged into a port that is disabled when an M.2 SSD is put in.

It happens to a lot of people, don't feel dumb :)

Where did u install the drive? in the M2A_SOCKET or the M2B_SOCKET

Only the A socket supports SATA SSD's (Which the Kingston is)
