Razer blade 15 base trackpad problem

Hello,

So today I've came across a very strange problem on razer blade 15 base 2019. I could not easily click on either buttoms on the trackpad. I did some research and find out that my battery might have swollen ( battery is located exactly under trackpad ). But then again, I turned it off and waited for half an hour to cool off and the problem was gone. Is my battery really swollen if it magically shrink back to original state when cooled off? Or the problem is not in battery swelling?

The swelling of the battery, to the best of my knowledge, isn't something that just cools off and shrinks; once it's swollen, that's a pretty permanent state that the battery is in. I'd say your problem sounds more like a hardware issue, perhaps some dirt or food has gotten into the cracks and is preventing good clicks. How long have you had the laptop? And when did the issue start occurring? I have the same laptop, albeit a 2020 model but it's nearly identical to yours so I am interested in your issue.

Laptop was never exposed to any dirt or food.

I identified the problem. Problem is indeed in battery. I have this laptop close to 10 months now. And I can confirm that the battery is close to swollen state. Here are pictures of battery for better visualization.

If you look closely the first cell looks fine. Then other looks like there is air stuck inside and feels like a bubble.

And its this part that is located exactly under touchpad. So when the battery is cool looks like now on pictures. I can imagine that when it heats up in laptop the "bubble" expands and becomes hard. So thats why when laptop is in cool state the touchpad works just fine, then when underload the heat goes up and so does the battery and the "bubble" pushes up on touch pad. It's only matter of time when the battery will permanently swell so I took it out before it can really damage any other hardware inside if comes to permanent swelling.

So it looks like I will have to get new replacement battery which will cost me ~100$. I know that razer gives 1y warranty on laptops so this could be replaced without any extra cost. But I got this laptop from a friend who knows a a friend and so on, so there was no receipt or warranty or what so ever. Probably directly from warehouse with no other retailers for much cheaper. But I'm not the only one with this exact problem. I've seen many people complaing on other forums. Even if purchased in retail store with warranty this could occur past year one. Expected more from a company like razer. If you are paying close to 2k$ or even above you should get better quality parts. So if you get similar symptoms on your laptop, don't hesitate to contact retailer for warranty repair ( if it still under warranty ). If out of warranty, just open it up take battery out and take a good look at it, if you''re comfortable in doing this yourself. If not contact any repair shops that will do that for you. I've seen many laptops (even apple) which have swollen battery and whole touchpad is bumped out because of this. So if it comes to permanent it could damage other internal parts.

It’s not so much poor quality batteries but more so your laptop lacking proper firmware that conditions the battery over time.

Swelling is usually a result of leaving the battery at full charge for long periods of time. Good laptops will condition the battery by discharging 10-20% every so often while plugged in during use to prevent said swelling.

Yours may not do this unfortunately. Make sure once you replace the battery that you drain the battery to at least 80% every few days if you usually leave it plugged in.
