Hello! I am looking for a duel monitor setup, but my Laptop (HP Pavilion 360 Convertible) only has 1 HDMI port which I am using already for a Lenovo C22 monitor. Will it be possible to use a USB 3.0 Capture Card (here) to duplicate the display to another monitor while I use the HDMI to extend it?

Thanks, stay safe!

Too my knowledge, if your Lenovo C22 monitor has a second HDMI port, you can daisy chain it.  Software should enable you to extend to that display.  Only way to know for sure is to try it out.

Hi, I’m not an expert. What do you mean by daisy chain, and will it work with VGA with good quality or do you suggest a HDMI to VGA dongle, as it only has vga and hdmi, thanks for responding !

The setup you said is not possible. There really is no good solution for a 2nd external monitor if you have 1 HDMI port. The most you can get is a USB 3.0 to HDMI converter, but those don't run well because they are software rendered (using your CPU instead of GPU).

Daisy chaining is connecting one device to another to another and so on.  So, from what I gather from your post is that your laptop is connected to a second Lenovo C22 monitor to extend to a 2nd display.  Since the C22 monitor's HDMI port is being occupied by the connection to your laptop, to get a 3rd screen in operation you would need to use that VGA port as you mentioned.  If the 3rd monitor you want to use has an HDMI port, you would need to get a VGA to HDMI to connect to the 3rd monitor.  If the 3rd monitor only has a VGA port too, you'd only need a VGA to VGA connector to hook up that 3rd monitor.  Again, once hooked up, software should recognize what you have done and allow you to extend the displays as you prefer.

Thanks! I’ll attempt that.

Both my monitors have a vga and hdmi port. Is it possible to daisy chain one to the other? I know you need DisplayPort but if you were to use adapters e,g,VGA or HDMI to display port (and connect that to a hdmi port using a dongle), would it work?

Sorry I’m not the best at computers

As far as I'm aware, neither HDMI or VGA support daisy chaining - in fact, even DisplayPort Daisy chaining is a feature your monitor specifically has to support. Both my Dell UltraSharp U2715H displays support this feature, but only once you turn it on using the on screen display settings of the monitors.

Hi, I don’t need a splitter as I want to extend, thanks anyway!

if i understand correctly, your main screen is the laptop display and you want to record an external display through an HDMI capture card.

So from the HDMI out on the laptop -> record card -> "passthrough" to the display and be able to extend the desktop from laptop to the external display?

yes, just like the card is not there you can extend your laptop display to an external monitor, however only the extended display will be recorded through the card as it is the only display being sent to the card. if you want to record your laptop display and extend the desktop to an external display you can just use OBS and point it at the laptop display and set the external monitor to extend.
